Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's
http://news.sky.com/story/1387098/mu...t-at-claridges
Yes, l am not a woman, but l totally applaud these women for staging this protest.
Claridges, and other top shops, come out with all this crap about ' supporting breast feeding' But, all they are worried about is people walking in and seeing a woman, what they do naturally feeding there. And walking out again.
Well done ladies

What's the matter, gents? Do we not like breasts any more? Or do we just not like being reminded they have purposes other than our ... er ... titillation?

Re: Congratulations to the women
If men even looked vaguely in their direction they would be accused(if only in people's minds) of being perverts. Why should ANYBODY be made to feel awkward.

Re: Congratulations to the women
I have been out and a woman whipped them out to feed a baby while I was talking to her, I did feel awkward as I've spent my whole life trying not to look but when there is a baby attached its hard not to

Re: Congratulations to the women
My friend was breast feeding her baby in her car sat outside a cafe and the cafe owner called the police to say it was indecent exposure.
This was about 3 years ago in Swansea and the worst argument against breast feeding i have heard was "Its unnatural"
Since its been going on for millions of years and humans are not the only species on earth to do this its one of the most natural things between mother and off spring.

Yes well done for being in their words totally ignored, still I'm sure the babies enjoyed being fed in the bracing weather sat on the floor in the street just so their mothers could make a point about something which was possibly set up in the first place.

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's
They were talking about this on the Jeremy Vine show the other day and made an interesting point that for those who are 'outraged' at the idea of a woman breastfeeding in public, most of the time they've never actually witnessed it happening and some were under the impression it involved the mother sitting there doing it while topless. One elderly male caller was taken aback at the reality of it not being that way, he paused for a few moments before asking "How else do they do it then?"
If the OH wants to naturally-feed my 5 month old son in public then she's going to do so and I feel sorry for anyone making a fuss about it, she's pretty tenacious but at the same time she's not going to be deliberate about it just to cause a stir. If she can be discreet then she will do so (after all it's about feeding the baby, not 'how much can we deliberately annoy people') however her priority is our son and not the avoidance of 'offence'.

In my experience, breastfeeding mothers have a pretty good idea how much they're going to expose, and for how long (and that's generally not much, and not long).
If she was comfortable feeding her baby while face to face with you, then she obviously wasn't worried about the possibility of you catching a five-second flash. After that, had you glanced downwards, all you would have seen would have been the back of a baby's head.

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's
I was in a high street cafe last week where a young woman sat at a table and discreetly breastfed her son.The staff(all Italian men),the other customers(men and women) didn't even notice..Or rather didn't care...That is what passes for the norm here and should be so anywhere in the country..I also wonder how many 'people' here have even noticed a breastfeeding woman going about her own business.
For those so easily offended on this forum may I remind them of the numerous remarks that have been passed about the easily offended on behalf of others brigade. Why does it bother a group of people who aren't even present as to why a group of women should assert their legal and human rights? Why the grumpiness dear male members?

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's
Whilst I'm not offended by anyone that wants to breast feed, I do believe in being a bit discreet about it.
So a woman decides to do it in Claridges restaurant, obviously not a cheap place to eat, I would expect a certain level of standard from a place like that. So this woman did not get told not to do it, but to be more discreet. I find that a fair response from the restaurant. But what winds me up is this woman took selfies before (looking all smiley and smug), then another covered up. All bit ostentatious if you ask me.
But this woman had to report her abuse of her liberties, which again is just all a bit pathetic. Other say she could have gone to the loo to do it, why not just in the lobby and not the restaurant?
The other bit where other women stage a protest is just taking the biscuit over some non story of someone who didn't like being told what to do (albeit in a place like that it must have been very politely), for all we know she could have been looking to make some statement on purpose just for this attention (hence the selfies).
It's not the act that's the problem, but the response that is pathetic.

If you saw the picture without the napkin, you would have seen she was being discreet - surely putting the napkin over her baby attracted more attention; her pictures weren't before and after pictures, they were with and without a napkin, trying to show which was more "discreet", and which was likely to attract attention.
You are right - some of the responses are pathetic.....
