New superhub 2 and no wifi
Just had the new Superhub 2 installed by the VM the technician when I was at work
I got home to be told by the mrs that he could not get the laptop to communicate by wifi but I got my iphone to connect in a few seconds with no fuss
I am now logged into the new superhub as I am writing this and have checked the required settings and password etc which all match but no wifi on my laptop for some reason.
When the superhub 1 was connected I had no issues at all
Anyone any ideas what could be wrong. The technician even gave up after several attempts and assumed it was something on my laptop and not a setting on the superhub 2
BTW I am running Windows 8.1 on the laptop

Could be something to do with the frequency.
SH has 2 frequencies 5ghz and 2.4.
Only some devices are compatible with the 5ghz.
You should see the option to sign in on either of these frequencies

I checked that as well. Both 2.4 and 5 are operative

Re: New superhub 2 and no wifi
what is happened? Is the network not being detected at all or is it coming up in the scan but it isn't letting you connect to it?
Edit: I have just re-read your post. When you say there is no wi-fi on your laptop do you mean no wireless at all? Is there is a wi-fi led on the laptop telling you where the hardware is actually enabled on the laptop? It might be that somebody has disabled it by accident and you need to enable it by pressing the function key plus an F key, e.g. Fn+F4. The logo will be on one of the F keys.

Ok let me be a bit clearer. The wifi on my laptop is working and the super hub is showing it as a connected device. I can see the yellow exclemation sign in the wifi signal strength indicator and have limited connectivity as a result

Re: New superhub 2 and no wifi
it has got to be a firewall or some sort of access restriction policy in windows 8. As it has connected to a new network the default settings would have changed and it is highly probably your wife may have selected the wrong zone settings. If you right click on the network icon on your taskbar and open the network and sharing center it will open a window displaying your current connections. Next to each connection it will tell you the profile which has been associated with that connection such as home network, public network etc. If yours isn't set to home network you should be able to click on it and change it.
Have you tried doing on ipconfig to see whether the shub has given you an ip address and it is set as your default gateway?

Re: New superhub 2 and no wifi
find out which wifi card you have then search for the drivers on the manufacturers website and install it even if you already have the latest drivers installed.

This.
A lot of obnoxious "internet security" packages do this sort of stuff too, some deliberately, some as a result of incompetence.

the best thing you can do atm to rule it out is turn off the windows firewall for a minute, this will disable whatever is going on in the network profiles and we can see if that is the culprit.

...so is there not an expectation that he should be able to fix this issue?

Windows firewall was already off as I am using Norton internet security.
Perhaps I need to make a detailed list of what's been done to help avoid some 'have you tried this' replies.
I just can't figure out how changing from SH1 to SH2 can create such problems although I agree it is an issue with my laptop settings as my other wireless devices connected within seconds.

that is your answer then. Try disabling Norton and see what happens.
