Depends on your definition of "compatible" I suppose.

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
Well I'd say "designed to work on" but then you'd argue what's your definition of designed and work...

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
Nah, just that I don't always trust the WHQL certificate to mean much of anything these days. Certainly drivers are better than they were before, but by golly they sure can still **** up spectacularly on occasion.

Yes they can and frequently do. Still doesn't change the original point though. A WHQL certificate prevents you accidentally installing a non-Windows 8 driver on Windows 8.

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
True, but my point was that a WHQL doesn't always ensure actual compatibility, just intended compatibility.
That is to say, it'll be compatible with the OS, but not necessarily the hardware itself.

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
dear dear dear. You need to change your security settings to WPA2 Personal with AES. It isn't going to improve your throughput but it will defo make your connection more secure. It doesnt matter how many user accounts you have on your pc. The only time it would make a difference is if multiple users were logged on simultaneously with enough apps and proccesses running that it would impact the performance of your pc. Unless you have got an super sweet NIC, your cpu is still going to look after your networking stuff.

Your network is set to TKIP? Well that's your problem. TKIP disables 802.11n.

I'd say going from 54Mbps to 300Mbps will improve his throughput.
Remember that 802.11n (well, technically, >54Mbps data rates) are only available with AES and are intentionally disabled with TKIP.

I thought you was winding him up but I have just checked it and it is true. The stupid thing is that I have done some networking and security certifications and I hae never come across it.

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
Try this:
On the Shub2 wireless settings, set 2.4Ghz mode to 144Mbs and 5Ghz mode to 450Mbps. Turn Greenfield off on both. Set the 5Ghz channel to 'Auto Compatibility' and the 2.4Ghz channel to the clearest in your area. You will get full 300meg when close on 5Ghz and the best practical speed at range via 2.4Ghz.

Re: Virgin Media WNDA3200 wireless adapter
windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
B-Link RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter
The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for the driver software.
can't install the new lastest driver 2014-03-05.
the adapter made in china ? and drivers might be made China aswell?
anyone know why i can't install the drivers ?
