I think it's about time Virgin Media or Sony let us know exactly what is going on.

That would seem logical - a streaming service like PS Now would be the ideal thing to partner with a fast broadband service. Maybe some sort of free/discounted PS Now subscriptions for Virgin BB users as apparently it will require a monthly sub.

BT did something similar a few years back with OnLive. It was a really good idea - they promoted OnLive with free memberships for three months and no extra tarrifs on OnLive data traffic during that time (i.e. It didn't count towards monthly download limits). BT also owned a stake in Onlive, but then Onlive 'restructured' and essentially BTs investment went out the window, so no further partnership. A shame, because it seemed like a great idea for both companies.

Given that anytime in the past VM have "partnered" with someone to "improve" a streaming service they've made a hash of it and ended up with a service worse than that over a 3G mobile phone.

When VM decided to host their own Youtube servers.

Re: Playstation 4 partnering with Virgin Media and 200mbit speeds this year?

Are you sure it's just not you that isn't very good at posting sources?

I know Virgin had youtube issues, but I don't ever remember them saying anything about any kind of "Partnership" with Google. It wasn't particularly clear cut where the issue actually lay there, was it Virgin's own capacity, their peering or a CDN issue (or a mixture of the above)? However, I don't ever remember seeing anything about Virgin hosting youtube content themselves.

Re: Playstation 4 partnering with Virgin Media and 200mbit speeds this year?

Guess you weren't paying much attention back then then.

Those of us who were, will recall specifically diagnosing the issue as being caused by Virgin hosting Youtube content themselves, on this very forum. We also figured out that bypassing VM's own servers definitively fixed the problem, it just wasn't easy to do.

I recall there being a bunch of different "methods" to bypassing the problem, one of which was blocking (if I recall) ntli.com or something, another was blocking Level3's IP's. None of the methods supplied were definitive, with different people reporting different results - including many for whom nothing worked.

However, that's not what I'm asking you. I'm asking you to provide a source where VM is claiming to have partnered with Google or Youtube specifically to improve the service. So far, you've only supplied conjecture.

Note - those aren't VM's servers. Those are Google's servers sitting on VM's network, and the issue was problems with the port-channel between the two which ended up being a bug with vendor equipment.
