Lets hope Virgin doesn't have the same problems with firmware that went on for years with their previous superhubs. Wonder when it will actually get released to customers?
You clearly don't understand how VMs SH2 works, may be you should try it

Erm, are you being serious? What are your technical qualifications?

Come back when you have worked with networks, routers and computers for over 25 years and have a Cisco qualification. Come back when you understand router's NAT tables and can BINWALK their firmware. Then you won't look like such a and we can talk.

Either you really are that stupid or you have listened to someone who thinks they know more than they do You really have thrown your dummy out of the pram chasing me in other threads due to me posting in your thread attacking Sky, disguised as an investment thread with no investment info, really grown up

Re: sky hub

Every product has its +'s and -'s but ultimately, there has never been a 'good' ISP supplied router, they are all built on a tight budget and will never meet the technical specification of a quality branded router

Oh dear, the old bitter, insulting QTX is back.

let's look at the facts, as soon as there is a potential good news story re VM, you are off, frothing at the mouth jumping around from thread to thread dissing them in anyway you can.

You often refer to me being an investor in VM, do some research VM do not exist in the markets any more, it's Liberty Global.

My last point would be, look in the mirror, there are a number of threads where you dismiss people opinions and try to belittle them with sarcastic comments.

It's not smart and it's not clever.

I'm all ears to everyone, except to those who have no clue about technology but insist on telling the techies they don't know anything, as if they have some air of knowledge or authority. Only come across one person that stupid so far, and even if they met the criteria above, the chat would still be too soon

I understand you have had lots of experience resetting problematic Superhubs, or something like that, talk away

Well he said Superhub 2. Which is 'above average' on paper (OK maybe not compared to all the new stuff released this year...). Up until the HH4 BT were known for being quite a bit behind as well. The HH3 being 2.4Ghz only, and having one gigabit port, was out at the same time as the Superhub 1, which had non-concurrent dual-band and 4 gigabit ports.

Cisco Shitsco. Meh!

That said he's probably not old enough yet. But if you're good at binwalking firmware I might just have a job for you

You can get a 5Ghz router/access point for about £30 these days. Alternatively (granted, not possible on the Sky hub but is possible on Openwrt routers) you can nick one of those VM USB wireless sticks, plug it into a 2.4Ghz router's USB port and run it in AP mode on 5Ghz.

Always gotta love those types on forums.

That said, about the 5Ghz mode "not being used" - more and more vendors are incorporating band steering now, and device manufacturers are sometimes biasing their client equipment towards 5Ghz as well. We are, slowly but surely, moving towards devices defaulting to prefer 5Ghz over 2.4Ghz automatically without explicit user intervention.

Course, it doesn't help that the 802.11 MAC is a horrendous pile of poop that still lacks basic features that first-generation 2G phones had in 1990.

Funny enough many newer phones have *removed* the option to manually select 802.11 bands, supposedly because too many users were setting 5Ghz only and then complaining their Wifi was broken when trying to use 2.4Ghz only networks.

Beginning to think you have lost all touch with reality. Your arguments are so thin you had to stoop to mentioning that VM is now Liberty global. It doesn't change the fact you only post positive VM stuff and belittle anyone who says anything negative about them as your pocket gets lined more the better they do. I gain no money at all from sharing my truthful experiences of being with VM.

I discussed the topic, you came to the thread and started the insults without any actual discussion on the hub.

Yeah, it's the non-router end which tends not to switch rather than the router end. Beam-forming may give better benefits and at least that is router end only so doesn't require anything from the connected equipment or any user interaction.

Really? With most users not being technical I can only assume they read about it on a popular site but most tend to not want to play with things they don't really understand, especially techy stuff. Can see how that is a support nightmare though. The sooner everything auto switches the better.

I don't know about other phones but in the Samsung Galaxy S series, there have been tremendous improvements on the 5Ghz front. Side by side, where an S2 may see a dual-band AP's 5Ghz network as 10-20dB weaker than the same router at 2.4, the S3 will see both about the same (and both about 5dB stronger than the S2) and the S4 will see the 5Ghz 5-10dB stronger - and hence prefer it automatically. Either they've improved their antenna's 5Ghz efficiency by a factor of a thousand, or they've done some clever driver calibration jigging to make 5Ghz appear far stronger than it actually is, and thus make it more likely to be used.

Yeah... There was a bit of a hoo-hah about Samsung removing the options in a firmware update on the S2 and S3, and leaving it out altogether on the S4. The underlying Android API hooks are still there though, so people have written third-party (root) apps to do the same job

I came to this thread with this post

Looks like VM are about to follow BT with an AC variant

http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/new...erhub_router_/

What is is the problem with pointing out that VM are following BT with a hub with similar technical specs?

Regarding lining my pockets, VM play a very small part in that nowadays - the growth in Germany is where the focus is

I am actually a VM customer and am allowed an opinion, you are an ex customer and have been for a couple of years now, so not sure if your posts are valid anymore as you do not have the current product set.

Will not engage in responses to your posts any more as I have far better things to do but like I said, these forums are littered with condecending post against anyone who has a different opinion to you.

for example

to Russ - No, Romanians are the majority nationality selling the big issue these days. Shall I say it s..l..o..w..e..r f...o...r y...o...u?

Trawling the forums for something I didn't even say to you and for which you provided no context pretty much sums you up.

The one thing I will give you, is you can admit you have had the financial interest in VM, which is why you attack those that say something negative about them and are post stuff that slags off their competitors.

Look forward to seeing you in the VM news forum soon
