sky hub

Helping my dad fix wifi issues, what a pile of poo the sky router is, it has no 300mbps mode and no 5ghz. He has 8 networks in his house and has to use the crappy 2.4ghz spectrum.

Puts in perspective how good virgin Media Superhub 2 really is!

The Superhub is 'average'; just because the Sky Hub is a pile of crap doesn't make it any better than average

It has a way to go to match the capabilities of BT's, EE's or TalkTalk's kit.

That would be the same SuperHub that got the nickname 'SuperFail' and had problems after problems, for year after year?

The Sky hub is rock solid stable, never ever needs rebooting or touching. Never had a problem with the wireless range either. They could and should have used better specs and it would surprise me if they don't have decent upgrades in the next version.

Give me a hassle free Sky hub over a SuperFail any day.

Having 8 wifi networks in the house is unusual and a crap way of doing things. Get a proper network guy in to sort out the mess

About time I made a post in the Virgin section about how crap the Virgin hardware is....

The Sky hub does lack in features but i beleive its a solid piece of kit

All I need is 5ghz mode. I'll have to buy a router or see if 500 homeplugs do the trick. Feels like I'm back in the year 2000 with this sky hub

Whilst I agree the sky hub is pretty solid I would not say it never needs a reboot.

When ever something goes amiss on my network it is the first thing I reboot and in all cases except one it has proved to be the problem.

However comparing reliability, the SH1 is lost on some 1 track road whilst the sky hub is cruising along a motorway. The SH1 is more feature rich than the sky hub but what good is that if most SH1 features do not work "as expected"

To summarise:
The skyhub is yesterdays tech but it still does what it does pretty well.
The SH1 is dustbin ware.

BT's released its hub last year, so been out for a while. I do wonder how many average customers make use of the 5Ghz range though. Newer phones, tablets and laptops have the capability but many default to 2.4Ghz and unless a user makes a conscious decision to change it, it wont get used. The majority of users are not techies and wont know the difference or when best to use the frequencies.

Lets hope Virgin doesn't have the same problems with firmware that went on for years with their previous superhubs. Wonder when it will actually get released to customers?

I dont recall the SH2 having firmware issues

Exactly, managed to use my old homeplugs, got him up to his full 16meg. Hopefully sky release a decent router for his renewal, bt and virgin are moving to AC and sky dont even use 5ghz.

Ive never said the SH1 was good, infact I was warned serveral times calling it names
