Help with router and speed limiting

Hi i have a d-link dir-615 the limit of this router is like 100mbps i have 120megabit from virgin so when i start downloading anything that maxes my connection the router locks up due to being saturated i guess so what im trying to ask is how do i limit the router to pump out via wired coonection to my pc 80megabits instead of the full whack, im thinking this will remove the issue of the lockups
 thanks

No there is no feature for that on the normal firmware. You might be able to flash custom firmware to do it

that is just a sign of a **** router. I have had 6 different models of Linksys routers over the last 11 years and I have never had a problem with any of them locking up under load. Unless you get a completely naff router now, anything you get which is semi-decent can handle 100mbits+ no problem because it is cappable of doing far more than that. One of the new LInksys routers I bought last month has got a wan to lan througput of 931mbits, so even at full speed for my VM connection of 152mbits, I am only using a fraction of what the router is capable of. You don't need to think throttling your connection as a % to your VM connection, but as a % to what the router can handle (and even a shub is capable of 400mbits). As an example, what you are saying atm is this:
My car can do 120mph but because I am in a 40mph speed limit I don't want to do 40mph because that is max speed, I am going to do 75% which is 30mph.

What I am saying is that 40mph is still a fraction of the 120mph which the car can handle without breaking a sweat. If you get pretty much any new router other can get rid of your dlink, you can go full speed on your VM connection no problemo.

If the hardware VM supplied can't do the job then you will be entitled to a better router free of charge.
