Virgin Hub being used with router

Hi all

When I first installed my virgin super hub (years ago) the wifi was really bad so I use it with another router for wifi. I think I switched something off with the super hub and was then able to use it this way.

I would like to have another go at now using the super hub for wifi to see if things have improved but I not sure how to reset the super hub so it can be used for wifi (hope that makes sense)

Any ideas on the best way of doing this.......

Many thanks for your time and regards

Mike

Re: Virgin Hub being used with router

Log on to your Superhub and choose the middle red button "Superhub settings" From here you will be able to enable router mode.

If you have a SH1, it's unlikely your WiFi has improved much but it's worth a try.

To go back, do as above but select enable modem mode.

Sorry how do I log onto super hub..........

If it's still bad what can I do....disappointed that I am paying for something that appears not to work ?

Re: Virgin Hub being used with router

To log into the hub put

192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1 into your browser. You'll get a sign on screen assuming you've not changed it the log in details are printed on the back of the SH.

Then follow pete's instrctions above.

I doubt you'll find the SH1 Wi-Fi to your liking though.

This does not sound reassuring !

What will Virgin do if I phone up and say it's not working correctly ?

It is well known that the compromises VM made in the SH1, particularly having internal antenna, make the Wi-Fi basically useless.

Depends which service you're taking but if you sweet talk them, and also say the Wi-Fi's packed up, you might be able to get a SH2, which by all accounts, works reasonably well.

Still no substitute for a decent Wi-Fi router and running the SH as a simple modem.

Many thanks for the replies

Interesting......what would be a good Wifi Router.....

Also could I buy a wifi extender which plugs into the mains and then plug another wifi router into that at another location in my house.

Many thanks for your time

I thought that was the reason for the SH1 Wi-Fi being sub-optimal?

Or is it that the SH1 is just a POS.

If internal antennae were the problem then we wouldn't have 5 out of the top 10 spots for wireless performance occupied by routers with internal antennae:
