For many, many years Cartoon Network and TNT were broadcast FTA.

A slightly confused view of what actually happened when Freeview started. Actually, the BBC / Crown Castle bid for the multiplexes had originally pencilled in a channel made up of CNN / TCM and Boomerang, this channel never happened. Presumably, carriage terms for this channel weren't agreed.
CBM was owned by a Midlands based media company, not by Turner, and carried a placeholder on Freeview for a number of months. CBM had planned to include a strand from Bloomberg in their content. After several months, the channel failed to appear and Crown Castle cancelled the contract with CBM. CBM subsequently announced plans for another Freeview channel with free sports content, which also failed to appear.

I would love to have True Movies 2 on VM, as well as True Drama - these are FREE channels. I cannot see it though.
Not the way VM treats its customers. They will take channels off to accomdate them.

So tell me if you can get BT Sports free on Sky Arthur and the answer to that is no unless you want to pay £15 more.

Thanks for the info. It did seem odd that they would jump the gun and allow a placeholder before terms had even been agreed!

I use a Free To Air (FTA) satellite box for anything I want to see on a FTA channel not on VM, though I do feel that one shouldn't need to.
I believe that a TiVo offering that comprises of all Freeview and Freesat channels would be a popular service.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
If I was running Sky, I wouldn't let VM have the channels until after the World Cup to be honest. Events like the World Cup are huge sellers for HD television and if a punter wanted to finally bite the bullet and get HD, which service looks better right now?

didnt they say a year ago a channel (i cant remember what one) was due to launch by spring and i just remember posts on here saying "isnt spring now over technically?" and people giving definitions of spring.
I think basically VM say things like "by summer" and dont follow any definition but it gives them basically a 3 month period to do whatever they want and then can keep referring people back to the "by summer" tagline.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
But I thought that only BBC and ITV had the live rights to games, both of which offer HD anyway (free, or if not free, certainly at a substantial reduction of what sports and HD sub would be anyway), so SKY Sports in HD would not be much of a deal breaker for those wanting World Cup games in HD. And anyway, I imagine any World Cup games SKY show would be on the already available HD sports channels, 1 and 2.
---------- Post added at 09:52 ---------- Previous post was at 09:51 ----------
Yes, looking at Wiki the live broadcasting rights are for BBC and ITV only, so there will only be highlights on SKY.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
I wonder if any tv companies will fill the void left by ESPN Classic in the near future? Pitch International Ltd hold quite a few rights and produced plenty of programs for ESPN, Maybe there is a gap in the market for them to produce a TV channel in the near future.......
