Has anyone had a notification of a Windows Live Essentials update in past few days?

OK, panic over.
I got a pop up notification of an Essentials update today, ran it and all of my links/shortcuts to Windows Mail Live vanished.
Ran a malware check just in case some nasties had crept onboard, all clear.
Just got an answer from microsoft forums on how to restore Windows Live Mail.
In case anyone else gets this using Win 7, enter wlmail in the search box, right click on wlmail icon and select the options for shortcuts.
