New computer running windows 8.1

An elderly friend has recently purchased a replacement computer with 8.1 installed.
Problems found are : Drivers not available for 2year old printer/scanner and Logitech mouse/keyboard combo.
Is it possible to install windows 7, drivers available for hardware.
My friend would have to purchase the windows 7 software to install if feasable.
[All advice received greatly appreciated

Re: New computer running windows 8.1

I am a bit surprised that there are no drivers available for equipment that isn't all that old. What is the exact model of printer? For the keyboard and mouse it would probably be cheaper to purchase a new keyboard and mouse. Have you tried the Logitech site for drivers?

Re: New computer running windows 8.1

I looked at the Logitech website and it says that basic functionality is built in to Windows so you should get some functionality. I am using a dell wired keyboard connected through USB which is several years old, probably explains why it works and a Logitech wireless mouse which is not very old. I have a Toshiba wireless mouse which is working on the laptop. The mouse was used on my previous laptop (Win 7) and just worked straight away.

Re: New computer running windows 8.1

Just spoken to friend, she has been speaking to printer support (epson) and Logitech.
Both apologised for delays in software for windows 8.1.
[Printers are Stylus Pro PX 730WD and XP-605, the mouse being an M-R0042]
Assuming she can't get the correct drivers she is planning to do a recovery disc on the 8.1 machine then install windows 7 Pro 64bit.
[windows 7 to be obtained from local computer contact which should all work]

Re: New computer running windows 8.1

I recently upgraded my Dell laptop to Windows 8.1. Originally it came with Vista. It needed some drivers for the SD Card reader, and the original ones for Vista installed without any issue.

As did the the driver for the 3G card, which 8.1 didn't have in.

So it is odd that the W7 drivers aren't providing the correct functionality, as I didn't think W8.1 had changed the driver model that much.

the 720 works out the box without drivers. Have you tried installing the windows 7 drivers?

windows 8 does have a system image option.

How big is the hdd? you could try shrinking the volume to allow windows 7 to dual boot?

Just to add if the win 7 drivers do not install from the regular installer try to force them to install by browsing using device manager

Re: New computer running windows 8.1

I think only machines with the 'pro' version of Windows 8 preinstalled come with downgrade rights
