Windows 8 Mail Question
Hi all,
been searching, but cant seem to the find the problem. I'm alright with smtp and pop settings, but Windows 8 is confusing me somewhat.
The mail client is asking for Server and Domain? Have tried various things, but cant seem to get past this screen? Any ideas what these 2 would be?

Re: Windows 8 Mail Question
Just tried to set an account up on my Win8 laptop, I assume you mean the mail on the start page
All I'm asked for is email address, password, username, incoming imap server and outgoing SMTP server. You can't have pop3 mail, only imap - if you need to use pop mail, you need a mail client like Outlook from the desktop

Re: Windows 8 Mail Question
I've literally just bought a new rig with Win 8.1 pre-installed. Its the built in mail client which I think you are referring to. When I start it, it asks for my email addy and password, then throws a fit asking for my "Domain" & "Username" (username I am using my full email addy and then when I try again, it throws another hissy fit asking for a "server address" and "domain"
My first time with Windows 8, what has happened to smtp and pop settings :| I don't mind using Imap settings (no idea what the difference is) but this isn't even asking for anything about Imap :|

Re: Windows 8 Mail Question
Sorry Slyder, I can't replicate your problem - I have just added one of my ntl accounts to the 8.1 mail client. It asked me for email address and password, after I answered these it said it couldn't find the details and I had to add username (ntl email address) and imap and SMTP servers. Once I did that, it worked OK
What sort of email account are you adding?

quick update, fixed the issue
instead of picking an exchange account which only gave me these options, I clicked "other email account" which gave me the imap settings

Re: Windows 8 Mail Question
Slyder, you really had me fooled! I never dreamt you had asked for an exchange account - that's when you connect to a company mail server!
Glad you're all sorted now!
