Day Z
Anyone paying this alpha release? Pretty interested in getting it but don't really think my pc is up to snuff.
Watched quite a few youtube vids over the last day our so, my kind of game, MMO, survival, team/solo, zombies, sniping (if you get the chance) big 225sqr km open map, 1st/3rd person shooter.
£20 on steam.

the money goes towards the continued development of what is an amazingly intricate game. Rocket (the designer) works on the ArmA series, and when he presented the idea for the mod, it was refused, so he started building it on his own...
If you have ArmA 2, you can just download and play the mod for free. otherwise, just put some money in for the stand-alone DayZ alpha and help it along. To be fair, for an alpha, it's more polished than many EA releases.

Re: Day Z
I found the ARMA 2 mod terrible to play. The lack of a jump ruined it the first time I had an encounter

Re: Day Z
Jumping onto a car or box then onto a wall higher ground= better vantage point and safety. Not being able to jump also means it is not realistic as I can jump and I assume you can to
I do not mean I am a bunny hopper
on top of all that the graphics are pants

Re: Day Z
you can do that using the 'Vault' button ('V' by default)
as for the graphics, it was started as a mod for a game released in 2009 (old in games terms). I believe it will also run on ArmA 3.

Re: Day Z
if you know you can get onto a car or box, why are you complaining you can't get onto a car or box?

because vault is not the same as a jump. I notice you are getting funny across the board the last couple of days and I am not in a position to rise to it so consider this my last reply

Re: Day Z
sorry you feel that way. I thought my question was legit enough to ask.
And no, you are right, vault is not the same as jump. However, it does meet the requirements that you expressed concern for in your first post regarding lack of functionality.

as I do play DayZ, I thought I might be able to help you out. It would be a shame for you not to enjoy the game or dismiss it totally because you mistakenly thought some functionality was not there, when in fact it is. It's a very good mod and extremely in-depth. Apologies for trying to help. I did not mean to offend you.
as for being 'funny across the board', please highlight where you think I have been out of order or rude and I will explain what I posted and why. I've not had anyone say anything to me as of this point regarding my posts, nor any reds for anything. again, sorry you feel that way.

Money well spent, it'll give you all updates from alpha through beta and onto release candidates and probably retail, so for me 20 quid won't break the bank, will hopefully see me through to and include finished game and it's there to help support the developer.
I think what will break the bank is having to upgrade my old gaming rig with enough grunt to play at relatively high detail.
From what I have seen the only real issues with the game are server lag. As for the jump/vault comment, surely anyone who plays enough should have the ability to adapt to to differing styles of gameplay, either that or mod the game to suit your style.

AFAIK there is no standing still jump but jumping over whatever whilst in motion (is that vaulting?) is there. As for are there as many keys to map Arma, don't know never played it. Most games I play have around 30 or so keys that can be mapped but I generally never use more than a dozen or so.

Re: Day Z
Go from Point A > B, loot, Go from point B > C, loot. Gather all the best equipment in the game in 20 minutes then go deathmatch.
Pretty much DayZ. I had completely forgotten Zombies were part of the game the other day.
