EE 4G?

Anyone on here using EE 4G?
Just like to know how people are finding it. as my contract with vodafone is coming to a end there 3G service has been crap last couple months. like to hear from someone in HP12 area how they finding EE coverage in area

I have just moved from O2 to EE. I like EE and 4G is quick. Only downside is when on 4G in the house i get only 1 bar of signal or no bars at all. To solve this i have to turn off 4G and put it to 3G and i get about 3 bars but signal is still bad and still drops to no bars.

Ok thanks my mate is on EE 3G he had the same problem inside the house he contacted CS and they sent him a free signal booster box all works fine now

Cannot fault it, just been turned on in my town and its brilliant. Been using it for around 6 months as I work in and around 4G areas. I bar of 4G is apparently the equivalent to like full 3G!

When i rang them up to see why i was getting no signal they said there system shows as should be 3 bars in and outside and didnt say anything about a booster. I want a booster, how do i get one?

Hmmm, thats not what i hear. When im on 1 bar it will sometimes go to no bars and my calls go silent and cut off. They cut off on 3G as well as signal drops

It is.

Zero bars of 4G can be equivalent to 3 bars of 3G as well.

However as I like to say, bars mean nothing.

Rubbish.

Your calls do not go silent or cut off as a result of poor 4G signal. Current 4G networks are incapable of handling phone calls. Since it's impossible to make phone calls on 4G, your call problems have nothing to do with your 4G signal.

4G works just fine with one "bar" of signal. In fact it usually works better than 3G, and continues working even after 3G has cut off completely.

That's despite 4G currently being run at much lower transmitter power levels, because you can't make phone calls on 4G.

Have you checked EE's coverage map? It's fairly accurate.

Their coverage anywhere you can get 4G at present is very good. And their actual list of places where you can get 4G at present is miles ahead of other networks.

As for speed and performance it's been reducing a bit over the last year, but still much faster than any 3G service. Reliability and responsiveness when you have poor signal is a huge amount better on 4G so ignore any scare talk of low "bars" - for one, they're measured completely differently.

As for Sodafone 3G being terrible - that's something that should improve with 4G rollout. All Sodafone 4G masts will also result in upgrading of their 3G masts to provide better coverage, speed, and reliability but the current coverage areas are very limited.

If thats the case then why do my calls go silent, break up and cut off? Even when i turn phone onto 3G instead of 4G calls still do the same most times. Sometimes it will show 4 bars and then all of a sudden it will drop to 1 bar, this is on 3G

I can't speak for 4G but I can tell you in my street, the 3G/2G signal varies enormously literally from minute to minute. Sometimes I can take a call, sometimes not. (I know bars are not an accurate measure but that's all I have to measure with) sometimes I get 3-4 bars, sometimes 1, sometimes none. It's actually really annoying as I'm not in the outback, I'm in a town of 60k or so population size. My bit of the street is slightly sheltered.

I'm hoping as part of the 4G rollout the mast will be uprated or improved somehow, it's getting a bit cold now to be on the roof with my hand held high shouting in my phone as I search for a signal

voLTE has not been deployed by any network (Three or EE will be first to launch it) so its not possible to make a call over 4G. If you have 4 "bars" on 4G but there is no 3G signal your call will fail.

Your phone drops to 3G to make a call.

Perhaps there could be an issue with the mast closest to you and its trying to connect to one further away.

Your calls are cutting off because your 3G signal is crap.

Nothing to do with 4G.

Surely you don't expect perfect calls and no cut-outs everywhere on 3G and for all coverage problems to be instantly solved just because you paid more?

Sadly, 4G transmitter power on EE is handicapped to prevent that from happening, i.e. you should never get 4 bars of 4G but no 3G unless there's a transmitter fault.

O2/Vodafone have much longer reach and coverage from their 4G transmitters because they don't cripple them in this way, but have fewer of them right now.

Im not saying i expect perfect calls or signal but while i was on O2 i had no issues with my calls cutting out or loosing signal but since going to EE my signal keeps going off and calls cutting out.

True point. Does that mean i can have 4G enabled at home with it being only 1 bar or none and i will still get calls and texts come through? As i say as it shows no signal or one bar on 4G i disable it when in the house so i know i will get calls and texts

4G with one bar will be perfectly reliable for texts. 4G is incapable of calls so calls coming through will depend on your underlying 3G or 2G signal. You could have a hundred bars of 4G but without a 3G or 2G signal no calls will ever come through.

Your 4G will switch back down to 3G long before the 4G signal gets weak enough to be unreliable. But if 3G isn't available, well then, nothing you set on your phone can ever change that.
