Now on the EPG
That takes the HD channel count up to 56. Another 8 coming to Freeview early next year, which should also arrive on Virgin. Not too far off the 80 HD channels Virgin reported they could grow to just a few years back.

Just to clarify, and to avoid a potential warning, are we okay to discuss such services in the appropriate sections of the forum or should they not really be discussed on Cable Forum period?

Cheers

On Sky, you can swap the SD channels with their HD channel variants on their EPG, so you have BBC One HD on ch 101.

For a long time now, it has seemed that the majority of new HD channels on cable have been launched higher up the EPG, despite the popularity of them. If you are going to swap the SD channels out of their positions, you need somewhere to put them which is why it seems on the EPG from 161 onwards, this may be what is going to happen (or not!). If BBC One HD is moved to 161 at some point in the near future, that is non-official confirmation that VM are about to start a channel swap which is what many of us want.

I had thought about that one. Though it would make more sense to shift Syfy HD to 161, that would enable the following:

BBC2 HD 162
BBC3 HD 163
BBC4 HD 164
BBC ALBA 165
S4C 166

Yep, although I am unaware, not that I've checked, of any American tivos having done it. But it is possible. I don't think the other boxes can do it, certainly not with their current liberate software.

We used to able to do it on the old V+ box. Could put the channels where we wanted them. It was a great little function. Wish they'd put it on TIVO!

This is incorrect. BBC One/Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 do not have HD swap and won't until all of their regions are in HD. Moving BBC One won't change that. There is still a lot of HD channels before 161 so I doubt this would signify a HD Swap coming.

There are not 8 HD channels coming to Freeview. Only 6 have been confirmed and they are the BBC HD channels and Al Jazeera HD.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

Avatar wars!

So is the thinking that, rather than a Sky style HD swap, there will be a specific HD part of the Virgin epg so, if you want HD channels basically they start at 161 rather than 101 kind of arrangement.
