Trying to set up a community pay as you go deal calculator

Hi,

My name is Matt and I'm trying to setup a community maintained website in order to help people calculate the best deals if they are on pay as you go.

My aim is to make something that is unbiased with the best interests of the customer in mind, not the big companies!

I have made a start already. I have written a website from scratch, bought a domain name and set up some hosting and added some of the deals I already know about. The site can be found at:

www.PAYGdeal.co.uk

However I really need help from people to find the best deals so that everyone can benefit from them!

Also, if anyone has facebook, google plus or twitter I would be really grateful if you could like it, +1 it and tweet it so that people can benefit from this. Or if you don't, pass it on by email or any other method you can think of!

There is also a data calculator I have written, and a comments section on the site.

As I said, I really want to build something that lots of people are contributing towards since I won't be able to make something half as good by myself!

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Matt!

I'm in two minds about this. While it could be seen as spam, it also appears to be a genuinely useful resource. Thoughts?

Re: Trying to set up a community pay as you go deal calculator

I was a little unsure whether I would be allowed to post it here - but I am genuinely trying to make a useful resource and not money. I am an individual, not a company and I do run this at a personal loss. But if you do consider this to be spam I'm happy for it to be removed as I don't want to upset anyone.

I would challenge you to find a better resource on the internet - if you can, please let me know and I will shut mine down and recommend it instead - since the only reason I started coding this was because I couldn't find one!

Cheers,

Matt.

This seems useful and there doesnt seem to be any motive other than being helpful, so I dont see any reason not to allow it atm.

the giffgaff links are affiliate links,
so the member is advertising realy.
just a heads up.

The only way to get the £5 free with the giffgaff is through an affiliate sim. If you don't believe me go to the giffgaff site and check it out - you can't get the free credit otherwise.

I recently graduated from university and am not in a full time job - so I thought rather than do absolutely nothing I would try and do something useful and helpful. However there are still costs involved with hosting a website and buying domain names etc - now if you feel so strongly that I shouldn't minimise my losses with an affiliate link that provides people who click on it with £5 free credit - then feel free to spend time programming your own site, pay for server costs yourself. Once you have done that let me know, I will take mine down, and you can put yours up.

I'm happy to be criticised over the quality of my work. And I would never be upset if someone said they thought the website needed completely re-working.

What I was looking for most is some help with maintaining the site and getting good deals.

Of course I am looking to "advertise" my site. If people don't know of its existence how can people make use of it? I assumed when I came to this forum that it was a place where people tried to mutually help each other? I assumed it is a collection of useful resources.

Affiliate links are not advertising
There is no need for further discussion on this, the thread has been allowed.
