love Virgin2013 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

Has anyone had problems with there codes?

as last week i had to call up to get mine and when i added it it told me that it was the wrong code or had been used before.

So i call the CEO office about it as was not getting anywhere with CS and today they called me and said they had problems with some of the codes and was still looking into it.

i have just got a email with a new code in it and guess what that wont work as well as keep getting message saying it can not be added now please try later.

VM should have tested this all out before getting codes out to people.

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

I've been very impressed with the netflix offering so far, both in terms of quality and content.

However as things stand I won't be continuing with it after the trial period. The absence of any way to control what children can access is disappointing.

You can pin protect it on TiVo.

Have you tried accessing your account via the Netflix website; there seems to be parental control settings you can change there.

Trouble is, there is no way to stop you swapping users on the app - although at the moment the app picks up the main profile, so until profiles come to TiVo you could set the main profile to be the kids one

But even if you could swap profiles, kids accessing Netflix on Tivo could just select the profile used by adults.

It's a bit clunky, but leaving the setting for kids as the default and then when kids are in bed, change the setting to adult using the PC and then fire up Netflix on Tivo. Obviously keep the user name and password details from the kids, and swap back to kids setting at the end of the evening.

Even with profiles, I can't see any other way to do it.

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

I've had a play with profiles, as Ben says not available yet for Tivo, and I know the app is pin protected.

Even if you could turn off suggestions it would be an improvement.
My 8 year old is still having nightmares from when she was at a sleepover with her friend. She watched a trailer for Chucky and it freaked her out.

I do trust my children not too watch such content, my 12 year old is a scaredy cat too , but there doesn't seem to be anything to stop suggestions coming up. for example if I watched Scream and the next day my 8 year old wanted to watch something she could be exposed to the image of Chucky as a suggestion.
I can't think of a way around that which is a pity.

Thanks Ben, I was aware. I've got things tied down pretty tightly through tablets, PCs and Tivo in my own home. It was while she was at a friends house she viewed the Child Play trailer.

Does that happen even if you set the Netflix parental control setting to 'Little Kids'? Profiles, even if they were on Netflix Tivo, wouldn't help.

You can set up profiles on your account on the PC but you can't use profiles at all in the Tivo.

I know (you can set profiles up on most Netflix devices), but profiles won't help your situation.

The only way for you to address your problem is to keep changing the parental control setting, depending on who is watching.

With you now. I was getting mixed up with profiles and parental controls. I can change the parental controls on my account and it will stop rated content from playing. That works exactly as I would like. I'm quite impressed with the level of parental control available and if I could use that with profiles it would be perfect.

The only snag is, without profiles, if I do watch stuff rated 15 plus it still displays the program icon in the recently viewed section. Not really a big issue for the likes of "House of Cards" but could be an issue if Chucky's image was the first thing to greet my 8 year old when she went onto netflix.

I may play about with the ratings and see if giving horror programs low ratings will stop them appearing as suggestions.

.
There is an option to say "not interested" on any program or film. That should help stop certain genres of films or shows from showing up in your suggestions too.

Re: TiVo Update/Netflix

Has this update done anything to the way TiVo calculates storage capacity?
