pussyfooting about
when I think about it _ i have been hearing about "trouble in the middle east" ever since i can remember - afghanistan and all those 'problem' countries
one solution could be to tool up some B52s and bomb the area back into
the stoneage - much like some of God's tactics were supposed to do methinks

Re: pussyfooting about
With all due respect what you see in that country is the result of being bombed back to the stoneage by the Russians and the US.

it's not just there - it's all that region - all life there seems to involve is firing weapons into the air and making victory signs with your hand
why are we bothering with these people - they contribute nothing - their culture is repugnant and their treatment of women is against European values
get real - drop it on 'em

When was this mythical time when it wasn't in the Stone Age?

Timeline
Quote:
1953 - General Mohammed Daud becomes prime minister. Turns to Soviet Union for economic and military assistance. Introduces social reforms, such as abolition of purdah (practice of secluding women from public view).
1963 - Mohammed Daud forced to resign as prime minister.
1964 - Constitutional monarchy introduced - but leads to political polarisation and power struggles.
1973 - Mohammed Daud seizes power in a coup and declares a republic. Tries to play off USSR against Western powers.
1978 - General Daud is overthrown and killed in a pro-Soviet coup. The People's Democratic Party comes to power but is paralysed by violent infighting and faces opposition by US-backed mujahideen groups.
Soviet intervention 1979 December - Soviet Army invades and props up communist government.

The Russian involvement helped any reforms. It was those that opposed Russian involvement that wanted the "Stone Age". It was the Russians and then the US that didn't want the "Stone Age" environment.

That's not what you asked, you asked when wasn't it in the stone age, the answer is within many of the members here's lifetime and imo the vast majority of Afghan's don't want the stone age either, their the pawns in the great game played first between ourselves and Russia, then the USA and USSR and finally the USA and Taliban, still sod them, let's start bombing.

Yes, let's kill lots of innocent people who have no involvement in any conflict whatsoever.

Its a bit strange that the Western powers involved in bombing Afghanistan back to the stone age did so even when there was no oil to steal at the end. Very strange indeed.

I'm sure there are people in the middle east who are just like you, except they're saying something along the lines of " why are we bothering with these people - they contribute nothing - their culture is repugnant and their treatment of women is against middle eastern values". I suppose it's a good thing they aren't in the position to bomb us back to the stone age, because if they were and used your reasons to do so then people like you would be the first to be outraged.
It's the people with attitudes like yours (on both sides) that have a lot to answer for re the situation we find ourselves in.
Cheers

Re: pussyfooting about
Afghanistan was liberated from the Russians with the help of the West. The fact that after the Russians left the leaders turned the country into a very very strict Islamic country very oppressive and with ties to Osama and terrorism is not in all fairness America fault. You have the rich Islamic countries like Dubai, United Arab Emirates but they are still very oppressive charging a woman with a crime because she was raped and they said it was pre marital sex and you have the poorer Islamic countries like Somalia where women are stoned to death for having affairs.
I think we can all be grateful that Islamic countries are factional and because you have the different tribes as it were they find it hard to unite. Saddam tried it in the first Iraq war when he bombed Isreal all he wanted was for them to retaliate something that they normally would with a vengeance if they had the war could have been a lot different had the likes of Jordan removed their support.
As for bombing the area well if ever there is a united Islam I doubt the world would have a choice
There is no doubt in my mind that radical Islam is the greatest threat the west faces

Re: pussyfooting about
Is Afghanistan classed as the Middle East?
Probably not so best to take out the countries in between. Then we can move on to North Africa and anywhere else we don't like.

The Yanks wont as there is nothing in it for them
I think its the bordering country along with a few istan countries that is known as middle East before you go into Pakistan India and China
So if you take Turkey as the last European then move South and East Till you get the Pakistan and Chinese borders and north to the Russian border
