Life of PI is on Netflix alll be it Netflix Canada but you can still watch it as i've already stated via a smart dns.
Technically Lovefilm also have life of pi and zero dark thirty via their rental by post service (although not a streaming service but still you see my point i hope) which is still cheaper than Sky movies oh yeah Lovefilm do blu ray too which is 1080p also Netflix do SuperHD which is 1080i and imo better pq than Sky.

I think you miss the point, for average joe public, they won't have a clue about DNS this and whatever else, they will look for an alternative to Sky Movies, and at present there isn't one.

There is no streaming alternative to having sky movies I am afraid.

What did you mean by your top post above?
That seems to suggest that US Netflix would be an alternative, but your second post states that it isn't. I'm confused by your, what seem to be, contradictory posts.

This is all hypothetical. Netflix won't be a direct alternative in the UK in the short term because Sky presently have exclusive first run rights. This was looked at by Ofcom, Competition Commission etc and found not to be uncompetitive.
So nothing will change unless/until Netflix etc enter the market and outbid Sky.

I don't think anyone is arguing about that. I just wanted to know what warrenb meant.

Simple they want in on the streaming market as for differences , Now TV movies only stream at 720p as opposed to 1080i on both VM and Sky theres no 5.1 sound at the moment unlike on VM and Sky.

Afraid I have to disagree MM.
Until Sky movies get the premiers before Lovefilm's rental by post service, or the few remaining blockbuster stores, give me the option to watch the many commentaries, documentaries, behind the scenes videos, interviews, deleted scenes and many other extras, improve their picture quality to the standards of my TV and Blu Ray player, and offer it at a cheaper monthly price than Lovefilm someone who is really into their movies should not be paying for Sky movies. If people just want to watch movies that are repeated ad nauseum, then Sky movies is the better option.
As someone is very much into his movies, I would much rather wait for my Blu-Rays to arrive by post than watch poorer PQ movies with no extras.
Sky movies also show plenty of films that have been shown TV before. For a start they had all the Bond movies for a while. Currently showing on Sky comedy is "The 40 year old virgin" Sky action will soon be showing Commando and (Rambo) First Blood and First Blood 2. Sky greats is currently showing Back To The Future and sky thriller are just finishing off the Day Of The Jackal.
There are many more movies that Sky are going to be showing later today and early tomorrow (BBTF 2, gladiator to name just two movies) which I have seen on TV a few times before.

I guess its whatever suits we find Now TV movies and Sky Store on Now TV box suit us and its pretty competitive , when I last used Lovefilm by post I rarely seemed to receive my top choices and found it a pain having to keep packaging them back up and popping them in the post box (probably just more to do with my laziness ).

Lovefilm with blueray rental and the included streaming is a very good option in my view. I had the £9.99 2 blueray discs at home for quite a while. It offers a good compromise of access to new movies along with a whole bunch of other content to stream, and at a price cheaper than Sky movies.
I stopped subscribing because I watch more US TV drama than films, and Netflix, coupled with a smart DNS for a similar price (£9.30) served my tastes better.
I still like to watch films, but I don't mind if I have to wait a while to see them. I actually signed up to the Now TV movies at a 6 month offer price of £2.50p/m, just to watch more recent films and only watched about one a month. I also found that quite a few turned up on various Netflix regions anyway.
I don't see a problem with the different services; it's good that we have the various options. Sky movies will be the right fit for some people, Lovefilm Blueray rental for others and Netflix/Loveilm streaming for another person, or indeed, any combination of them all.

Fair enough MM. I agree with you about the dvds about the packaging, it is alas a labour of love for me though.
