Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

Does the TiVo Netflix app output in 1080p or SuperHD as Netflix like to call it, when available on Netflix? My TV is saying its receiving 1080i???

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

I believe you need to set the TIVO to 1080 pass through mode. Main functions will run at 1080i, but any 1080p Netflix content should then display 1080p if I've understood correctly.

I tried that, and it said it didn't support it... Do I need to do something to my actual TV too, or is it just that my TV doesn't support it?

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

Apologies if this is what you've tried already, but go to Home>Apps & Settings>Settings>Video Output>Video Output Format>Test Formats. That'll test each format on your telly and then, if supported, allow you to select the passthrough option.

Yeah andy_m, that's exactly what I did, and the test for 1080p passthrough didn't succeed, so wouldn't allow me to choose it. And yeah, TV is full HD.

I found the automatic test doesn't always pick it up. If u manually choose 1080p and you have the correct hardware should be ok.
I run mine through an a vamp which does the decoding and my info screen on tv displays content shown at 1080p @ 24hz

this makes sense of my issue now. I run my Tivo through an amp and the test says 1080p is not possible although my TV is a top of the range panny.

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

I had to manually choose the 1080p passthrough even though my television is 1080p HD Tivo did not recognise it. Have watched some Super HD from Netflix and it is showing at 1080p.

Before the update, Tivo would not allow 1080p on either of my two TVs, although both are 1080p capable.

Since the update, Tivo will now allow 1080p on the newer TV (Sony 40W4000) which is fed via a Yamaha AV amp, but will not allow it on the older TV (Sony 40W2000) where the input is direct from the Tivo box to the TV.

It doesn't really make sense as the 40W2000 will take 1080p from the WDTV Live SMP that I use for Netflix. Gota love HDMI handshake!!!

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

Thanks - my TV is a Sony Bravia KDL32EX403U, I'll try doing it manually, and seeing how Netflix displays - I assume as it's only Netflix that I won't be breaking anything else by choosing 1080p. I don't suddenly want everything else to stop working!

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

If you have an amp, and TiVo won't let you select 1080p, try temporarily connecting the TV direct to the TiVo, then see if you can select it. Another possibility is to disconnect the HDMI completely, and temporarily use SCART instead.

You could also check if a firmware update is available for your amp.

Re: Netflix 1080p (superHD) out put.

Yeah, thanks to the advice, followed the advice................Now when watching Netflix "SuperHD" my TV reports as outputting 1080P. An for people with amps.....use the TV's 5.1 passthrough using optical back to the amp.

I'm assuming we all have TV's with atleast 3 HDMI ports?

It's an option to try if people are having problems, but I have no issues c0nnecting the normal way; Tivo HDMI out to amp --- Amp HDMI out to TV.

Do all TV's with optical out actually pass 5.1 through? I thought that I had read that some don't.
