The loss of the CL will definitely devalue Sky Sports from 2015 so it will be interesting to see what they do to react? Reduce prices, obtain alternative content?

Definitely interesting times ahead and I think, as others have said, with the onslaught Sky are facing with BT, Netflix, Blinkbox, Lovefilm, etc then hopefully they'll now view VM as a bit of an ally to wholesale their content through and finally give us the channels a lot of people on here would like such as Atlantic and the additional Sports HD channels.

The telecoms giant is understood to have bid nearly twice as much as Sky, who, according to a person familiar with the process, dropped out of the running after the first round after seeing BT's offer.

That kind of suggests they werent prepared to pay anymore , as for what they'll do going forward who knows however as Den says I can't see a reduction in subscription costs.

What's the odds on Rupert starting a breakaway league now with bigger prize money Just joking by the way.

MM, you may not be far off the mark as you never know where football, money and the Murdoch's are concerned. Maybe they'll start a Champions League by another name (European Premier League) where the top one or two teams from each European country compete in a league over a season??? You can but wonder

Aye sadly i can see it going

sky sports- going up slowly over the next 5 years
BT- going up to £15+ and BT refusing to go back into the XL package after 2015 stating the amount of coverage they have

sky sports will refuse to go down in price as it'll be admitting they've been devalued. They'll start using "buzz words" to try and fight it such as

"never as much premier league football"
"the home to football in england with more coverage than ever"
"the greatest league in the world...gets BETTER"

or some other cheesy rubbish to stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the loss of rights and any price change. probably if theyre quizzed they'll say

"it was already cheap enough with the champions league footage which we actually didnt make people pay towards...25.99 a month is excellent value for our customers and remains so"

and we'll all continue to pay whilst forking out an extra tenner to BT sports and the cycle continues

Then stop paying it. People could easily cancel all sports when there is no PL football on. Two or three months of massively lost income for Sky would soon open their eyes!! I don't believe there will be much high class sport being shown on Sky over the summer, so why not try it?

The sooner they do, the better. People can then have more of a choice over what football package they pay for. This too would help bring the cost down for many people. You could SS Special league (sorry could not think of a snazzy name) and SS non-football sports (aagin apologies). Dedicated to all sports not football. I imagine a non-football sports option would be much cheaper.

I didnt say i did pay for it? But you're not going to get people to stop paying for it in general. It's like if we all run down to westminister and demand change there will be. It's a nice little pipe dream but people are always going to pay rip off prices for sky sports.

There is a huge difference between stopping Sky Sports ripping people off and trying to lobby the government though. Sky will be hurt by a lack of payment from thousands of people rebelling against the price. If I and thousands of others stop paying taxes, go to Westminister and wave a banner about saying I am not paying any more until we get change, I (we) will be arrested and put in jail. It would take many, many millions to effect the government, and then the army will be bought in. Also we get to vote for a different government every four years.

It's not a pipe dream for me. If people want to pay that's fine, more fool them. They just need to stop blaming other people. it can happen. If a luxury food item was massively over priced few people would pay for it. The shops would then stop selling it or lower the prices. Why accept it for a few football games?

Anyway I am going down the same route as I did yesterday. I give up, everyone is right. The regulators, PL, Sky and BT are all in the wrong. Everyone who pays to keep them making an obscene profit (on sport alone) is a victim and should be treated as one. I am out of this forum for a while. You all have my sympathies for your awful sporting predicaments.

The only way to stop Sky being dominant is for people to stop paying them over the top for sports.

BT are trying to take Sky on, whether it is for the customer or their own gain I do not know. It is pointless though if people blindly pay Sky what Sky want.

I won't be drawn into an argument on this (everyone will be pleased to know) but the sooner people vote with their wallets, the sooner we will see real change.
Harry I agree with your initial point , if a significant amount of people cancelled their sports subscriptions then the likes of Sky and BT would be left with no other option than to lower prices but to suggest Sky are the only company to increase prices is quite frankly ludicrous. The last few years we've seen constant increases from all suppliers granted some have been down to Sky (Sky Sports increases) however both VM and BT have also increased prices significantly for things like line rental , XL pack etc in fact all of them have increased prices sometimes considerably over inflation , there all as bad as each other.

You're getting the hang of it, but 'scheduled for 2015' was a schoolboy error. Better to leave it as 'coming soon' so that if pressed on a date, you can keep saying 'soon' or 'not long now' ad nauseam.

Clearly I could not stay away long.

Where have I said Sky are the only one who puts prices up on anything other than sports? I have only ever been talking about sporting bills. I genuinely do not remember posting about other price increases, please do quote me where I have, and I will gladly eat humble pie. If you van not find any, please apologize for calling me ludicrous. Lets try not to digress from my original points though please.

Oddly enough I know all companies put their prices up, I do get bills after-all.

My point about Sky is that they should drop Sky Sports bills due to the lack of content. To be clearer, any sports bills that increase will be down to Sky not lowering their sports prices. The increases in sport prices will not be solely down to BT getting rights Sky to content Sky no longer have.

It is up to Sky Sports to pass on savings to sports customers, not jack up the price of PL rights.

Jeez.

Jeez.
Within the last few years theyve added F1 , Sky sports in 3D , Sky Sports On Demand , Sky Sports iPad companion apps , increased amount of premier league games , an increase of 37 games per year from the football league , signed new deals for cricket , the CL has a further 18 months to run who knows what other content will be added maybe they'll freeze the cost but it won't go down , people have a choice now if they don't like what they're paying , cancel simple really isn't it.

As long as people pay it Sky will continue to charge its all about supply and demand. Have you ever tried to book a flight abroad during the kids holidays the prices are considerably higher due to the increased demand whether its right or wrong thats life I guess.
