Yes but here is a list of the places you can order HBO from;
AT&T Universe
Comcast
Dish Network
Directtv
Charter
Optimum
Time Warner Cable
Liberty Com
Mediacom
WOW (Wide Open West)
And that's just a small list, as well as being able to stream direct to your PC.
Here's the UK list;
Sky (Sky TV & Now TV)
It's not giving consumers choice, and businesses like HBO rely on choice. If they were only available on say Dish Network (US Satellite), they would never be able to afford to make the programmes they do, so by allowing choice, more people will consume the content, therefore be more interested in the programmes and, in the US, keep their subscription and, everywhere, sell more DVDs and BluRays.
Unfortunately I am not likely to buy Boardwalk Empire, Vegas, Veep, Hello Ladies etc without first seeing it on TV, because I'm not going to waste the money on something I might not enjoy. Therefore it is best to have HBO content more accessible, even if it requires a minimum subscription to say XL, the content is still available, and not denied, also it would reduce piracy of those who don't have Sky who wish to view these shows.

Personally I think sky should have a good think about this,now that Netflix is out one would suspect sky movie subs will go down if they was allow vm to have sky Atlantic in the premium that we currently pay for hd movies and sports that may get some to stick or add movies to receive sky Atlantic hd.both winners vm have access but limited and sky take some money

I think that's just changed and some cable co's now offer it without the need for a basic tv sub.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.
I've finally got Sky Atlantic, thanks to Now TV, and, aside from an afternoon of playing with it, haven't tuned in much. They're showing Boardwalk Empire a couple of months behind the US showings (and torrents) and the Stephen Merchant Hello Ladies is not to all tastes. Aside from that - very little to shout about being shown at the moment.
Whereas with Netflix I'm knee deep in Breaking Bad, which I'll follow with Orange is the New Black, then House of Cards, then the third season of The Killing (US) and possibly a revisit to Battlestar Galactica.
HBO in the US is a very mixed bag - films dominate its schedules and the new dramas and comedy are infrequent. Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire aside, they don't have that much. Fox here has more popular cable fayre (Walking Dead, True Blood, Dexter, etc).
Don't get me wrong: Sky Atlantic is good, but it's a channel with minority appeal, but if folk are expecting a schedule packed with quality every day, they're going to be a wee bit disappointed.

I understand that none of those programs are available to VM users but was only reflecting on the observation that once nialli could get SA he observed that apart from Broadwalk Empire and Hello Ladies there was "very little to shout about being shown at the moment" and "if folk are expecting a schedule packed with quality every day, they're going to be a wee bit disappointed"

But that applies to any digital channel.
The important bit is that many, critically acclaimed shows are not available to VM users. I would say that Atlantic has a lot more currently running dramas than either Sky One or Sky Living
VM is catering very well or sports fans; they should do the same for people who are fans of critically acclaimed drama.

Sky's deal with HBO ends in 2015 although its worth remembering Sky Deutschland also have a similar deal with HBO for Sky Atlantic in Germany.
|
Going by the HBO Nordic price of 79.00 SEKp/m which is about £7.46p/m. It would work out a loy cheaper than £21.50p/m. This ofcourse has all changed with the entertainment pavk on Nowtv for £4.99p/m alsp bear in mind not all Sky Atlantoc shows are available on Nowtv either

Also it's been mentioned on several forums the Netflix intend to take on Sky for the mocvies when the contracts are up for renewal.

That was almost 5 months ago now. What ever happened?
|
Sky's proposal for their new Sky Bravo channel is what happened. Sky was desperate enough to get Virgin Media on board to delay the launch of this channel pending negotiations.
Incidentally, this is yet another reason why Sky would want to do a deal with VM that would result in our getting Sky Atlantic.

tbf Sky Atlantic really isn't all it's hyped upto be. It has some good shows yes but it's mostly full of crap. This is just my opinion ofcourse everyones taste in tv differs.

That's right, I don't think anyone is saying that if they got it they would be glued to Sky Atlantic every evening - I certainly wouldn't be.
However you just have to take a look at the dramas we have missed to realise what is shown on the channel over time. That is what the fuss is about.

I don't know what else VM can do with drama. I am expecting an announcement very soon regarding Sky Atlantic, and the launch of Netflix fills a big gap. I am very impressed with this to the extent that with all the recordings I make anyway, I don't know when I'm going to find the time to watch everything!
