The Boardwalk Empire advert for Sky Atlantic has this in the small print when talking about previous seasons On Demand;

I know its kind of vague but saying Sky Customers Only suggests that the channel is available elsewhere.

You know, I wondered if that would be the case. If I were a betting man, I'd say that MGM/HD will be added at the same time as the Sky channels.
I suppose it is possible we will also get the Sony Movies, but I'm not sure how closely that is associated with the Sky arrangements - I think that may be separate.

I hope that we do get Fox+ and fairly soon. The only programmes I tend to watch on that channel are within the coveted 9 - 11pm slot, so timeshifting is important for getting all my recordings in!
|
And none of those shows are repeated through the week on the main channel (and, therefore, in hd)?
Genuine question, I just cannot get my head around +1's being a good idea.

Couldn't agree more , as an example
The Walking Dead Season 4 Ep 1 airs on Friday 18th October at 10pm
It repeats in HD
Saturday 19th at 2.10 am
Sunday 20th at 9pm.
You also have catch up with most content now HD.

Yes it does, cause if Sky Atlantic is only available on Sky, then they dont need to say Sky Customers only cause well durr.

I'd go for separate, the Sony channels aren't in a Sky package but are FTV. Not FTA, suggesting they are only encrypted to restrict viewing in Europe. So, unlikely that they would be included in any deal with Sky.

You have to understand that Dave is a pessimistic non believer unless he sees it in black and white.

When you say 14 NEW CHANNELS, l trust these are NOT +1 channels. As to me that is not a new channel

Thing is I do watch sd, quite happily. But if I have a choice then I do choose hd. But I also have a TiVo which resolves recording clashes, and you and Muppetman have things like never miss. I just think +1's are a backwards step for technologically innovative companies who are already providing many more flexible ways to catch up with missed shows, and generally in hd. The truth is that +1's are really only a way for channel operators to squeeze a bit more out of their advertising revenues, they're inflexible in that they are still scheduled and don't fit with the "what you want, when you want it" ideals of TiVo and Sky+, or even myBBC, and given the number of repeats and catch up options available to people they don't even really offer something that isn't already available.
IMO.
But I would be genuinely interested in Old Boy's opinion, because he said he welcomed the addition of FOX+.
