Clutch pedal on car has no resistance
I drive a Peugeot 206.
The other day the Clutch bearing had gone and I needed to get it repaired alongside a disc or something that also went alongside the bearing. Car was repaired.
However I was driving it home and the clutch now has no resistance at all. It will go right to the floor with no force as I push down. This makes it quite hard to find the biting point compared to it's previous feel where I could discern the point from the amount of resistance in combination with the feel of the engine. Now I just have the latter.
Is this normal?

Re: Clutch pedal on car has no resistance
I think the Pug 206 clutch is a hydraulic system. There could be air in the system perhaps due to a failing seal in the master/slave cylinder.

agreed ,we had exactly the same issue in a truck that just had a new master cylinder fitted .
@ Damien keep pumping the peddle and see if it gets some resistance ,pumping the peddle can release air that is trapped .

Cheers. I'll do that.
It does change gear but the lack of resistance freaks me out. Would this be a sign it's about to break down do you think?

I'm assuming the "new disc" was the actual clutch plate ,and you say the thrust bearing was also changed so ,no not break down just air in the system ,either left in from the clutch change or entering the system as Uncle Peter has said

Re: Clutch pedal on car has no resistance
Hi,
just looked in the book. All right hand drive diesels have hydraulic clutch. The rest are cable operated. From what you are saying is wrong it could be the return spring is broken or has come off. If it is hydraulic remember the clutch is on the left as they are conversions from left hand drive. Just thoughts in my empty head.

OK. So I did the pump thing and started to feel some resistance again. Took it on a test drive and there is a bit of an improvement. However it occasionally reverted back to lack of resistance, although perhaps but as bad as before, and I have to pump it again. Could it take a while to leave the system?

Yes it could take a while to completely purge the system ,what i did with our truck was pump about 30 times ,got full resistance but lost the resistance a while later pumped again and got it back ,all in all it took a full day of repeated pumping and regular use to remove all the air ,when the resistance is stable don't forget to check the clutch fluid reservoir as the more air you remove the lower the level goes

Why don't you just take it back to where it was repaired and get them to sort it?

Where's all this air going then?

Re: Clutch pedal on car has no resistance
Could it be the air being drawn into master cylinder, leaking seal?
(I am not a motor mechanic, just an interested viewer!)

Can't remember the last time I had a day of repeated pumping...
