I can't see a problem with the OP starting a new thread. He asked a different question here, moving from a new router to a new modem. It's just that the topic has swung back round to the router - quite sensibly.

Although im happy with the router i have bought i should of realised it could of been a dodgy modem at fault. Are there any any signs that would tell me that the router is faulty? warning lights ect

You could've tried modem mode with one device connected first.
