KIA Cee'D 1 CRDi Eco-Dynamics 1.6 5dr 2012
I have a KIA Cee'D 1 CRDi Eco-Dynamics 1.6 5dr 2012.
Im having an intermittant problem where say your sitting at traffic lights and the car is idling the car will suddenly cut out. Theres no problems restarting the car but the engine just dies.
Ive had a mobile until come out to test engine management and he said there were no problems he could find.
Anyone know what it could be i can drive but when it comes to mechanical stuff im useless lol

I might just stating the obvious but does that model not have stop/start technology that cuts out at lights to save fuel?

Could be any one of a number of things but I'm confused, presumably the car is under warranty (7 years isn't it?) so why isn't your Kia dealer sorting it out? I think I'd be wanting to get the dealer to take it in rather than risk it getting worse and getting stuck somewhere.

It's supposed to cut out when the car is stationary

That's what Derek stated but the OP didn't seem convinced and why didn't the dealer and call out service he used inform him of that at the time? Very confused here

Magic - I wonder if a new starter motor would be required at 50,000 miles on the clock with this technology.

Had Stop and Start on a loan Fiat 500 - very confusing, soon switched it off.

Yes, I'd like to know what any problems associated with stop/start might be. I'm sure it saves fuel but does it have any additional ramifications for servicing, maintenance, repairs etc. which might negate the fuel savings wholly or in part.

Re: KIA Cee'D 1 CRDi Eco-Dynamics 1.6 5dr 2012
No the Starter Motors are usually heavier duty to account for any additional wear & tear that start/stop causes. This should be covered on Kia's under the excellent warranties they have! A while ago my dad was a taxi driver driving a kia sedona, and it had 200,000+ miles but they still fixed things under the warranty which I thought was ace!

My Mitsubishi has it and it only kicks in when there isn't a big draw on the battery, with the AC off etc. and even then at times when I think it should turn off it doesn't.
I wouldn't worry about it. As long as it restarts when you press in the clutch things should be fine.
