Can't Seem to get the Broadband Monitor to work :(
I create a graph and leave it with my PC and internet on.
However, I only ever get a block of red.
I'm running Win 7 with Norton 2013.
Anyone got any ideas why it wont work?

Make sure 'Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP' is ticked in your modem/router settings.

I'm using the VMNG300 so does this apply? If so how do I check it?

Yes i think it should apply, on the Superhub this option is found under advanced/tools/ping, i am not sure where it is on the VMNG300 though but i am sure someone will respond with your answer soon.

Re: Can't Seem to get the Broadband Monitor to work :(
If you're using a VMNG300 and not attaching your PC through a router and if you don't have a software firewall on your PC, then you you will be unable to allow ICMP through.
There are no user controlled settings on the VMNG300 of which I am aware that allow ICMP to be set to permitted.
If you have a router attached to the VMNG300, you'd set ICMP allow in the firewall or some setting there.
If you don't have a router attached and you have a software firewall (e.g. McAfee) then you can set that to pass ICMP. I've never tried this because I've always had a router attached. if it does work, it'll stop working when you turn your PC off.

Eh? Nonsense. By definition if you don't have a software firewall, then everything will be allowed through.

Do you have your PC directly connected to the modem? Do you have Windows firewall on? What version of Windows? What IP do you have set up in the monitor? If you're paranoid about privacy just state the first 6 or even 3 digits.

Yes direct from Modem to PC.
Windows Firewall is off.
Windows 7 64-bit SP1
I remember the IP started with "10." (Can give better indication tomorrow as I can't get to my PC right now).

Re: Can't Seem to get the Broadband Monitor to work :(
A 10.x.x.x IP would have been an incorrect (and invalid) one to use with the ping monitor, hence why it didn't work. You should use the IP it autodetects and fills in for you when you set up the monitor, or failing that go to www.whatismyip.com
Unless either of the above also give a 10.x.x.x IP, at which point something really weird is going on.

He can hit the CONNECTION link in the forum to get the IP address.

Re: Can't Seem to get the Broadband Monitor to work :(
enable ping response in Windows 7:
Control Panel --> System and security --> Windows Firewall --> Advanced settings --> Inbound rules --> New rule --> custom rule
in Protocol and ports: Protocol: ICMPv4
on the same panel go to customize, choose "Specific ICMP types", check the box "echo request"
The rest is trivial; go to next... next... and save it.

Just checked and the IP address is showing as 82.19.24x.xxx on the website.
This matches what is shown on the "whatismyip" site too.

Re: Can't Seem to get the Broadband Monitor to work :(
10.x.x.x IP's are internal (like 192.168.x.x), which is why that would never work.

Windows Firewall is off.
Norton Firewall allows the ICMP.
However I did set up a rule in Norton to allow Echo Inbound and Echo Requests.
