BT reveals Home Hub 5 with ac Wi-Fi
I don't have BT but saw this article and thought it may be of interest to those that do.

This will be the first of BT's Home Hubs to feature the latest super-fast Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard. Although still not widely supported, ac Wi-Fi is built into the latest raft of laptops such as the new MacBook Air, and it's set to become more widespread very soon. The Wi-Fi will also support dual-band to reduce the chance of interference from other networks.
Hub 5 will also be the first to include a built-in VDSL modem, meaning users of BT's Infinity service will no longer need a separate modem box and a Home Hub, reducing both clutter and power usage. It will also be the first Hub to feature four gigabit Ethernet ports. And, like the Hub 4, the whole package is designed to be slim enough to fit through a letter box, saving you a trip to the post office.

depends how you see it I guess.
Bad idea because rebooting etc.. but good as you save power, space on your desk and a power socket!

and from my point of view it would be more space on the desk (hub in modem mode and my router), 2 sockets and more power (hub in router mode using more power than standalone modem)

That's how I see it too.
Sky are going down this route as well.  Just gotta hope my BTO modem don't suffer a premature demise.

Are they? Disappointing. I was planning to use my own router. I'm surprised that Sky are planning to release another device given the new 'hub' has only been out for about 6 months.

ATM, with a separate modem, there are a couple of options for using your own router. With an all-in-one device, if no modem mode is included, you will at least be able to configure it to allow your own modem to piggy-back to the sky hub's DMZ.
However it has been rumoured, since sky's assimilation of Be/O2 subs, that sky are taking steps to make it easy for anyone to be able to connect using their own modem and were even training their support staff to be able to cope with router queries other that those regarding the sky hub.
Of course there is always an outside chance that the new sky hub will be so powerful and feature rich that you won't feel the need to run your own

It's approaching a year in September and longer for some customers. It was first introduced for certain new customers in June last year.

Depends.. I have a Superhub and because of the problems that had, I use a router. Before, I was paying to power one modem and one router. Now, I am paying to power two routers.
