Official: There was no double-dip recession
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23079082
Quote:
The UK economy did not experience a double-dip recession at the end of 2011 and the first half of 2012, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has confirmed.
Updating its historical data, the ONS showed that the growth figure for the first quarter of 2012 was flat.

---------- Post added at 10:29 ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 ----------
In fact, it's Labour's economic credibility that's now taking a double dip:
Quote:
The ONS also said the recession in 2008 was deeper than previously estimated.
Gross domestic product (GDP) during that time is now estimated to have plunged by 7.2% from peak to trough, against a 6.3% fall previously recorded.

Re: Official: There was no double-dip recession
Cameron and Osborne should hang their heads in shame! Those inept toffs can't even deliver a double dip recession FGS! If Labour had been in power we'd have had the best double dip recession in the world to be proud of but these idiots just can't see that. Osborne couldn't organise a double-dip in a recession!!!

Re: Official: There was no double-dip recession
Meanwhile, back at the topic, do you agree that it is a good thing that there wasn't a double-dip recession, and that the only recession this country suffered was the one that was the worst in living memory thanks to Labour's failure to use the good times to prepare for the bad?

Quite wrong actually - voted for several parties in my life and, as yet, undecided for the next one. The fact that I detest Labour and what they've done to our economy doesn't make me a Tory. Good job you didn't put any money on your bet...

I just wonder what "updating" to its historical data has been carried out by the ONS and what statistical manipulation has been carried out to arrive at the results?

You sound like Ed Balls.
Perhaps if he hadn't made such a fuss about figures, which he presumably will have known would be subject to future revision, to base his 'double dip' assertion on he wouldn't look such a twit.

Having said that, Balls looks like a twit and sounds like a twit most of the time.

The UK economy grew by 0.6% in the three months to June, according to official figures.

Some more good news. Let's hope it's not a blip.
