If you want to go back to a time where people 'knew their place', where do you think your 'place' would be?

This may help explain Damien's reply to my post....

What is all the fuss about. We know that extreme indoctrination is taking place in these sort of places. Assume for the sake of argument it went on in that location, do you think they couldn't hide things for just one day? Try hidden cameras on the other 364 days a year and at other locations and you might get a different, but truer picture.

But it doesn't take place in all Mosques ,indeed i would say that most Mosques are exactly what they purport to be ,which is a place of peaceful worship. We do have to guard against the extremists in some mosques exactly the same as we have to guard against the extremists such as the EDL canvassing schools ,pubs and other places they think that they can recruit supporters

I didn't say that it takes place in all mosques, but it is undeniable that it does take in some. How can you tell which mosques or Islamic centres have extremists preaching there? Even those ones can shut down their "operations" for one day a year and invite people inside. Inviting people in doesn't prove anything either way. Eg People can be on their best behaviour when social workers call round to check on children. That doesn't stop abuse before or after they've left.

The importance of what happened is that when the EDL started protesting outside the mosque instead of calling the police the Imam asked them inside the mosque to talk and in the end both parties realised that they had the same objectives which is to stop extremism ,so on that day at least a few extremists ended the day with a different outlook on Muslims

Re: Soldier murdered in terrorist incident in Woolwich
Not especially surprising but.
Quote:
A man has been charged with the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in south-east London, police have said.
"Following the release of Michael Adebowale from hospital, we have authorised the police to charge him with the murder of Drummer Rigby.
"We have also authorised police to charge him with possession of a firearm, contrary to section 16A of the Firearms Act 1968.
"There is sufficient evidence to prosecute Michael Adebowale and it is in the public interest to do so. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Thursday 30 May."

Re: Soldier murdered in terrorist incident in Woolwich
Muslim groups seem to be making a very concentrated effort to be seen to be rejecting these people. It's pleasing but also rather depressing they need to do so, hopefully the relatively calm response so far from the majority of non-Muslims will mean they will not need to so next time.

They should be standing against them all the time. Outing those they think may be a danger to authorities ( of course this may be happening anon)

I disagree that it's depressing. In the past there had been what I'd describe as a justified perception that Muslim leaders and groups have not publicly done enough to speak out against their murderous element. It seems like they certainly are making a concerted effort this time and of course that's a good thing but I don't remember such an outcry at 7/7. Ok yes there were plenty of Muslims speaking out back then but it didn't seem to be the same as it is now.
In an ideal world any sort of group would not have such pressure to speak out but I think it has come to this due to a perceived lack of action in the past.
It doesn't have to be a grand gesture as such - for example I thought those Muslim elders who invited the EDL in for a cuppa and a chat was awesome. Plus it was the perfect way to shut up the knuckle-dragging types. A very classy and smart move.
