ITV 'informal approach' to buy Channel 5.

Richard Desmond is understood to have quietly made soundings about whether there is any appetite to potentially sell Channel 5 to rivals including ITV, just three years after he acquired it from pan-European broadcaster RTL.

ITV sources have confirmed that a very informal approach has been made through intermediaries, although it is notoriously difficult to divine Desmond's true intentions in testing the value of Channel 5 in the market. The approach is understood to have taken place several months ago.

The comment was made in the Guardian article that Den linked to, that VM doing the deal with Sky for VM to provide Sky with network capacity, could/would have included TV content from Sky in the deal. Hence the question as to whether Atlantic could have been included in those discussions and be part of the deal?

As of time of posted I have seen no information on any new channels launching on Virgin Media from Sky as part of this new ONE YEAR deal for Sky Sports and Sky Movies.
