The VIP for many represents excellent value but because Sky premium is included your view is your not paying for it ? Sky World HD bundle includes the HD pack does that mean under your way of thinking that customers selecting that are not being charged for HD.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
I can now see what VM are doing this year
ESPN is going as we know which is a big pull for the XL pack so over the next 5 or 6 months I can see a lot of HD channels been added to this pack to off set the loss of the ESPN channels
BT Sport will then be added but on a pay per month basis like sky sports
The XL pack currently has 26 HD channels I think I wouldn't be surprised if thats some where between 34 & 40 by the time ESPN shuts

As long as any new channels that come on are not +1 channels. And l dont mind paying for BT Sports, as long as it isn't expensive./
I think that BT Sports will be on the same lines as ESPN - free

I cannot see that at all sorry. They are looking to maximise income not viewers.....

Oh, there's still quite a few +1 channels around that could be added.
Not a major problem as there isn't a shortage of space and anyone who doesn't want to watch these channels doesn't have to...

Indeed, the only place they would wish to maximise viewers would be on their own platform.

Then BT Sports could be making losses for quite a considerable while.

+1 is a horrid expression. I prefer Other Half as in Challenge Other Half..... :-)

Den I have been thinking this. The prices they have paid do not make sense to me. Also they seem determined to throw away the DTT subscribers to ESPN.
I think this is a heck of a gamble to try and increase broadband customers. It may work but the sport is a strange gamble.

No, it follows that they would wish to maximise income from other platforms. Maximum revenue/customer rather than offering the channels at a discount to the masses.
If they give the channels away to XL viewers on VM, it's hardly going to help them build the user base on their own platform.
As for losses, it's probably a loss leader anyway, to build interest in their own product.

Which is why I usually say timeshifted channels, although even that doesn't sound too wonderful.

But the problem is that there is only so much money swilling around and customers have a finite amount of money and whatever they do things l personally think it will fail in the medium to long run unless BT are prepared to subsidise it for many many years to come as a considerable loss leader.

I would have to agree, I can see no way that BT will get any return on the huge investment buying PLR for the length of time that they have the rights.

You are not seeing the bigger picture, they do not have to make a profit on the football for it to be a success.

SKY might have lost a lot of money in the beginning in sports rights, but look at them now, the question is have BT got deep enough pockets and the nerve to stay in it for the long haul?

I fully understand what BT wish to achieve, but I cannot see BT shareholders being to happy with the situation unless BT can show some substantial growth in their products as a result of this huge investment. There were rumblings at the last shareholder meeting.
