Because I don't want to count hundreds of copper coins..the percentages are so minute so it is be worth it.

Oh and in the meantime I actually try to give the right change from my purse to the annoyance of all the young whipper snappers in the queue behind me, instead of breaking a new note every time or even a pound coin.

I disagree, I would get rid of copper coins.

I would make the 5p the lowest denomination coin in the UK.

COPPER! you're having a larf mate! They might look like copper, but get hold of a magnet and wave it over the top and just see how they stick to it like S**t to a blanket!

Seriously -one thing I guess would happen though, is that traders would profit from rounding up their prices, I.e. no more of this £1.99, etc.

What I'd like to know is how petrol stations can charge prices based in fractions of a penny, E.g. £1.32.9p per litre - I've never seen this anywhere else how come they can get away with this??

Si thee

Watch from 14 minutes 6 seconds in. I had a chuckle watching this the other night. It's funny that it's being mentioned here today.

FFS. "Copper" is obviously the generic term for that type of coin, I know it isn't made of copper.

Just the same way I know that 5, 10, 20 & 50 coins aren't made of "silver"

Must be something big going on somewhere because I've been approached numerous times by people offering to sell me £20 notes at £5-£10 a note.
