Only one section of the population owns & controls China...... THE BANKERS. Any wonder why it's happening under the noses of western population because not many asked why this was happening as we in the west was losing it's own jobs to a 3rd world style run economy.
Now every knows not just the ones that asked before

Erm, it wasn't the western nations who wanted good quality electronic goods at cheap prices, it was the populace of the western nations....

Re: China acknowledges 'cancer villages'
China has enough money to put in proper disposal services but they don't. These Chinese companies putting stuff together aren't exactly poor either, they are making money out of it. heck China haven't even got food standards. have a look at the food markets over there, thats nothing to do with the western world.

To clear this up Hugh, doesn't the governmental nations represent the populace of them nations? (there elected duty) So we are good & clear on this point..no offence.

I beg to differ ,i would say that eastern countries, like China, decided that there was a market for cheap electronic goods built with cheap labour and little or no care for the environment so decided to make them ,us westerners simply bought the cheapest product available which would still be true if all companies manufactured responsibly

Re: China acknowledges 'cancer villages'
Is it Western companies that own them, or is it Chinese companies that sell to Western businesses eg Apple? The Western Banks and companies probably wish they owned them as they make so much money.

Well if you look back in history, china wise you'll see back in 1949 there was a trade agreement with the western governments, then all the trade agreements that we have today goes back to the agreement with china to take all the western nations industry sectors ...signed back in 1974..... Now do you wonder why all of sudden China by 2015 will have over 75% of the worlds manufacturing industry producing western goods? It all pre planed from the start would be correct in saying. Not to forget the near financial melt down of china's economy lead the way for a full banker buy out of all their assets back in the day... as we all know about bailout is you get bought out cheap & the banker own your country from here in; look at ~Grease, Italy, Spain there good examples what happens when the corrupt banker system buys a country/ies outright. All the signs are in past history to seen what they do to a once stable country.

Probably a combination of all .Western banks have been pumping money into China, india etc for years because they see it as a growth area which in turn encourages western companies to invest because they see it as a easy market with little regulation so increasing profits ,all this is encouraged by a government that doesn't care about human rights and international agreements so western banks and companies love it

Re: China acknowledges 'cancer villages'
When I was growing up every home had coal fires, the cotton mills (and there was a hell of a lot of them) belched out black smoke 24/7, everything was covered in soot and of course there was the smog. We had a river running through the village and within half a mile of it's beginning from a spring it was totally polluted, funnily enough, all through my schooling I only ever new of one person who had asthma.
The countryside was just a quarter of a mile away, farmers kept cattle and sheep, all the sheep were grey, years later I was on holiday near the Romney Marshes and when I saw the white sheep there I realised for the first time that our sheep were actually covered in soot.
Due to the massive profits being made by the cotton industry no mention was ever made of the pollution they caused, the holier than thou reports you hear of other countries polluting the environment make me laugh, they are doing exactly what we did back in the day, putting profit first.
Not content with ignoring the pollution the government of the day decided to offer everyone a free chest x-ray, sheds on wheels arrived and the workers duly took their turn to be bombarded with massive doses of x-rays which resulted in a massive increase in lung cancer many years later, the operators of the device soon started dying due to them getting massive doses all day long, day after day. Modern x-ray machines operate on a minute exposure compared to those early machines, was the mass x-ray an experiment, who knows.
We are told how bad it is when other countries cut down trees, time was when Britain was covered by trees only to be cut down to build ships for a navy capable of conquering much of the world.
So you see, been there done that, then conveniently forgotten.

Very well said.
The British Empire was built on soot and sweat. Now we are one of the richest nations in the world. It must be really galling to be told by the British "do what we say, even if it is the complete opposite of what we did".

To be fair we didn't know the damage it could cause. Probably wouldn't have cared anyway but it is a different scenario.

Fine. So punish them in the most effective manor. Boycott all companies that use Chinese labour or equipment in the provision of their products/services. If enough people do that, they won't have the money required to pollute themselves.

Politicians do that all the time of course.
The world's moved on a lot in the last couple of decades, let alone hundreds of years ago, when the science behind stuff climate change and other environmental concerns wasn't around. With such massive population growth in recent times and rising world tensions regarding precious resources of all types, it's important we get across the message no matter who delivers it and how hypocritical some may feel that is.

There is evidence that people knew the damage caused.

If we want to send a message that we really are concerned about the environment, why don't we do something other that spout hot air?
