SKY GO Extra
Just wondered if anyone had seen the new SKY Go Extra. It looks pretty good.
Downloading shows to watch later etc.

You are ahead of the Android customers who are still waiting for virgin to give them a streaming app.

The topic is Sky Go Extra. Not what Virgin do or don't provide. Please go back to the topic.

The basic Sky Go still works exactly the same way that it always has, completely unchanged and still a free addition to your Sky package.
Sky Go Extra ups the device limit to 4 (great for families) and also offers a download option so you can download as many movies, sports & TV shows that your device will hold! This would be great for the commute or plane journeys etc.
This upgraded service will cost £5 a month (less than Netflix) and allows you to have the latest movies and TV shows available to download as soon as they air in the UK - in many instances this is over a year earlier than the more expensive Lovefilm & Netflix.

Re: SKY GO Extra
Just upgraded to Sky Go Extra for the 2 months free. For people that are unsure Sky Go is still free and provides the same service as before at no extra cost. Sky Go Extra allows upto 4 devices and allows you to download content for offline viewing.
Just downloaded a film and will see how it works later. I dont think i will use it that much so unless i can find reasons for it i dont think i will use it after the 2 months free but we will see

I used to be able to download programs with Sky Go to watch offline but now i can only stream so it's only any good if there is an internet connection .The difference is we are being asked to pay for watching offline and 2 extra devices .This is the email sent to me yesterday
We've changed Sky Go –
but we're giving you something extra
Hello , We've changed the way Sky Go works, which means you can no longer download movies and shows to your PC, Mac or laptop to watch offline. You're still able to stream live and on demand though, at no extra cost. To give you an even better offline viewing experience, there's new Sky Go Extra • Register up to four devices, including mobiles and selected tablets, and download to them all • Then watch offline and on the move – no more signal interruptions or buffering We're giving it to you free for 3 months. And if you love it as much as we think you will, it's easy to keep and great value at just £5 extra a month. If it's not for you, don't worry, we'll automatically remove it on
21 April. To enjoy Sky Go Extra, just update the Sky Go app or go to go.sky.com You'll see the new download feature there waiting for you.

I stand corected Martyh.
I wasn't aware that you could previously download content on the desktop top app as I've not used SkyGO in that environment. The downloading is definitely a new feature to mobile & tablet devices though.

I think this whole revamp of SkyGo is due the rise in popularity of netflix and such like ,Sky have realised that despite having that product a number of years they are losing a lot of money by having it completely free .
One thing i am not sure of is if you pay the extra for Sky go extra do you still have to subscribe to a certain channel to watch it ?or does the £5 a month allow you download a movie even though i don't subscibe to the movie channels ?
