Mugger hits the jackpot

It seems some ******* is going to enjoy a very happy Christmas.

An 86-year-old woman has been robbed by a mugger of her life savings and money she won at a casino.

Why on earth would she think carrying her life savings around with her is safer than leaving them at home though?

And I just wonder what she was doing wandering around at 2:45am having been to a casino with that money?

The article states she had caught a taxi home after leaving the casino so presumably she was mugged as she made her way to her front door.

Old folks don't tend to have much faith in banks. It's disturbing how many of them keep significant amounts of cash in their homes and on their person which of course makes them an even more tempting target for certain types.

That said. 86 and going to the casino???

I don't trust banks either and avoid using them also where possible now.

I didn't even have an overdraft with natwest, went away abroad for a few months, some charge they imposed on my account put me into negative and then they started loading my account up with £180 a month fines for unauthorised overdraft.

And because I was out the country at the time they closed the account, emptied my other accounts I had with them to pay the debt then referred it to a debt collector for the remainder.

So I can understand why people don't trust banks, so instead I have a heavy duty fireproof safe inside the house bolted and cemented in, in a not so obvious place.

Being my work is mostly cash payment (I do genuinely declare my income though) I have no need for a bank account and a pre paid MasterCard does me fine for occasions I do.
