Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

have you had a look to see if you have been upgraded to the latest revision of firm ware? (they are rolling out R37)

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

Mine upgraded to .37 firmware, dont know when exactly, but about 2 days ago. Since then its been dropping the wifi periodically with the laptops "Network Troubleshooter" reporting an invalid ip assignment.

Wired is unaffected.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

mine seems to have been the opposite. pre-r36 was absolutely fine, then r36 screwed it up a bit. dropping the wireless a lot and persistent reboots at specific times ..........so much so that i knew what the time was when my phone lost connection to the hub.

but r37 seems to have fixed it agian, and it's now had an uptime of 10 days without a single reboot.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

it is weird, it is like they cant get it right. A lot of people said R36 fixed the wi-fi issues and others said they remained, and now R37 is out, it has fixed it for those it was broken for and for those it was working fine for, it is now broken. I can only imagine how frustrating it is.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

That very fact, seems to suggest that there are differences at the hardware level. Maybe netgear switched chipsets in mid production and didn't inform VM of this, not expecting VM to want to code their own firmware.

Just speculation.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

Or bad quality control, like I suggested years ago.

VM do not code their own firmware. All the firmware work is done by Netgear.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

Qasi's absolutely right. There is enough scenario information in the forums for VM to have them all trialled or lab tested.

Assuming that netgear code the firmware, it's for VM to do the use case & stress testing and to do it properly.

So, rubbish firmware specification + rubbish firmware coding + rubbish QC = SupeHub result.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

Modem mode and own router fixes all this. VM willnever fix wireless and stability on the SH. As their record to date proves.

Re: reseting a lot - leeds 8

yup. If you are going to have a router with a gigabit switch and 400mbit wan to lan throughput then you need to make sure it can handle some beefy transfers. As an example (and this is true) I bought myself a 3tb NAS and 2 nedia players 3 weeks ago and ran some cables round the house to the tvs etc. Both the media players and NAS connect to a Linksys switch which then connects to my Linksys router. I have copied just over 2.5TBs of content to the NAS and not once did the router or switch have a problem with it. As a matter of fact, while the traffic was going through the router, I was also doing my usual stuff on my pc and downloading torrents and we were also streaming stuff off the NAS whilst copying stuff to it. Rock solid hardware that works flawlessly even under pressure/stress.
