Free speed upgrade - dropped SH requirement?
I noticed about a week ago that my 50Mb connection had been upgraded to 100Mb. The letter to inform me of this arrived today, but there was no mention of me having to accept a superhub to received full "benefit" of the upgrade - just the promise of a further free upgrade sometime unspecified in the future to 120Mb, when VM were "next in my area" (whatever that means).
I am currently using the VMG300 modem and have no desire to go over to the superhub (I use an Apple Time capsule, so only need a modem, not a wireless router). I had read here a while ago that VM were insisting that customers "upgrade" to superhubs as part of the roll-out in order to get full speed benefits, but since I'm currently getting 104 Mb/s on speedtest.net using my exisiting VMG300 modem, this clearly isn't a valid reason.
Does anyone know whether VM have dropped the whole superhub replacement programme for speed upgrades?

you dont need the SH but their trying to get everyone on SHs. keep your VMNG until it dies.
send the SuperHub they sent back. there should be a return sticker and instructions within the box. put a note in the box stating you dont need it.

Thanks for the reply Thenry. They haven't sent me a SH, and I'm in no hurry to acquire one! I shall just keep my head down and keep quiet!

You can turn off the wireless router part of the Superhub though and make it just run like a modem and connect your own router to it.

Yeah the modem mode makes the superhub basic but if I was in your shoes, I would take thenry's advice and stick with what you already have.

There was a post over in the VM forums about this and I often wonder how truthful it was. I wish I could find the link to it, however, it was as follows;
"The SH in modem mode is not really in modem mode. It is a strange hybrid DMZ route to bypass most of the SH workings, but it's still not a true standalone cable modem."
Any of the gurus here, care to comment or enlighten, as I don't know anything about it .....

Qasi puills these things to pieces and knows what he's saying - even if he keeps it short!
To expand on that, in modem mode, the SH's router section is collapsed so that data is routed to a single switch port. That is the maximum extent to which the SH firmware is used in modem mode. Hence its utter reliability and the only thing about that wretched device for which VM can take credit.
