there used to be a freephone number 08001690199 where you can dial up and they will tell you (using a recorded message) whether your area is affected by any faults.
I dialled that number today and it sounds like the usual 150 or 151 number.
Has Virgin scrapped that service now or there is a new number to dial?
The faults system that was on the 0800 number previously wasn't aligned with the new faults log system that reports faults on 150 and on the Service status website.
So rather than allow it to report incorrect information, the line has been temporarily diverted to the main phone system so that you get the correct details of any faults effecting your service
