She has said the same thing on Loose Women.

re: Operation Yewtree

What most of them are saying in a round about way is that apart from it went on, but it was acceptable within the BBC at that time.
the rest about not being able to say something is after the fact.

I'd guess we're going to be doing a BBC celebrity jigsaw puzzle soon.
more is going to be uncovered soon.

re: Operation Yewtree

Firstly let me say something, this thread is a serious discussion on a well known personalty who is 'accused' of seriously sexual assault on males and females.

Its is NOT a joking matter, like 'starr ate my hamster'.

Jim Saville, if true was a sick man along with Gary Glitter who vialtaed children who were vulnerable, and this goes on today, It is no good big stars going on telly saying that they would keep there 'mouth shut' Paul Gambechini should be totally ashamed of himself, that if he KNEW what was happening - he should have gone to the the police.

It totally angers me that here we have a deceased star who commited these crimes, yes he cannot be punished now, BUT Gary Glitter can be arrested for these crimes if he was with Saville, but these people tend to keep there feelings to themself.

I strongly believe that IF people know this is happening, then they should go straight to the police.

For those who missed it, it's here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KDSji5BlWs

I'm sure most if not all of us will or already agree with the points raised by the audience members at the end.
These so-called celebs jumping on the "we knew all along" bandwagon really don't seem to realise the fools they're making of themselves.

Just goes to show how high the intellectual bar really is (or isn't) when it comes to qualifying as a media personality, it seems any pretty face with a big gob will do.

I'm almost afraid to say it, but I agree with you Arthur - all the people that ignored it, should be ashamed of themselves - by keeping silent they condoned the behavior. Perhaps once we've finished investigating the news papers maybe we should investigate the conspiracy of silence that seems to exist within tv media.

I also thought it was funny that Susan Kramer kept referring to them as 'CBR' rather than 'CRB'....

I love the way all these plebrities (see what I did there?) come out of the woodwork saying they knew all along.

She also said that as an executive producer, she got rid of 2 people because of allegations made against them. I wonder if she told them why, or did she make up a spurious reason. Without actually witnessing acts yourself, how much can you do in that situation.

I think Janet street porter is making a few assumptions to cover up her own inadequacies .She is assuming that no body would believe her ,and given the amount of people 'rumored' to have been molested at the time she is assuming that none would have come forward and backed her up

.
Makes it even more ridiculous .Look at how perceptions changed from the sixties, seventies and early eighties with women becoming more independent and free thinking ,at least one of them would have made an allegation and pursued it in the name of womens rights

It's easy to know those assumptions are wrong after the fact though isn't it? How confident would you be to come forward and reveal the 'rumours' you've heard about the figure who is greatly admired by the public?

re: Operation Yewtree

I suspect there will more more alleged abuses in the days ahead, and to think that Savile had managed to keep this under wraps right up until nearly a year after his own death. Decades of abuse and no prosecution despite many dozens of abuse victims. That's some conspiracy of silence.
Granted, it seems evident that many celebs "knew all along", but I never heard of this until earlier this year.
Now, if Savile could manage that conspiracy, just imagine the kind of conspiracy an organisation like NASA could pull off?
Especially considering how there's been rumours for years.

I am sympathetic to the comment about 60s, 70s and 80s was a different time. Things happening then would never happen now

But, for it never to come out, that is different.

re: Operation Yewtree

Colin25, abusiveness goes on in todays society, you have vulnerable kids out there, and even adults out there that get 'attacked' by these sicko's buts it is something that people don't come out with.

As l have said in an earlier comment, it happened to me and that was when l was 12 / 13 and it happened within the church. But no one wanted to know as they felt it was kids causing trouble. There used to be a cinema in Hammersmith that was known locally as @@@@paradise, as that is where they all went, and as l said 'it' was called a different name then. And what used to happen children would be followed home and the 'victim' would be hit in a secluded part of Hammersmith and bang.

There was a certain part of Hammersomith Bridge, that kids would go and no one could see the other side of the birdge.

I would urge anyone that 'If' they think something like that is happening go to the police or call crimestoppers or even NSPCC. As l have this does go on each day, it is that victim is too scared and embarrased to tell anyone.

depends how look at it .She is saying now that she didn't come forward because no one would have believed her in a *"male dominated industry"* maybe she didn't come forward at the time because it either didn't happen or it did and she didn't care enough because she was concentrating on building her own career

* i think that's a load of hogswash ,nothing stopping her or others in the industry revealing the truth as they saw it later on when their careers where established and it wasn't so male dominated

What proof would she have had? You can't come out and label someone a child abuser without evidence, especially not someone as popular as Savile was. People are equating rumour with 'knowing' it happened. What do you say?

Presumably the same proof she has now and she and others have no problem labeling him a child abuser based on rumor .
