A few Questions

Hey, we have Virgin Media for XL Broadband and XL Phone and just the medium tv, but as money is getting tighter we were looking into swapping our SKY HD with the Movies to a XL Tivo package.

So I called Virgin and have been offered the following deal, XL BB, XL PHONE, XL TV with a 1TB Tivo box and to keep my V HD box upstairs and I have the 0870 add on for my phone. So the total would be £68 a month that sounds a good deal to me?

Anyway we went to call sky and as always they have been trying to make us stay with them and even offered me to swap my 60 meg broadband to their 8meg

She told me if I get the 1tb from Virgin it has the same space on it as a Sky HD standard box as the rest is taken up by Tivo is this correct?

We have not stopped sky yet as they keep putting my mum through to a Scottish Lady who my mum says "aww but she sounds dead nice"

Nope.

Standard Sky+HD box can do up to 185 hours of standard TV or up to 60 hours of HD

1TB TiVo can do up to 536 standard TV or up to 121 hours of HD

Re: A few Questions

Indeed it is. Any Sky+ has a lot the available space (50% I think) take up by Sky for their "Anytime" content whereas with Tivo all of the drive space is available to use.

Okay, maybe not all but certainly the majority. I'm sure there's an OS on there, etc

Re: A few Questions

Sky+ does reserve 50% of hdd space for Anytime. Our old Sky HD had a 320Gb WD green in it which is now a secondary drive in our spare PC. The remains of the Sky box have been recycled at the local tip.

As the teacher would say C- Carl you must try harder

Sky+HD is advertised as 250GB , it offers the customer 250GB (60hrs HD) and has a 250gb partition for On Demand meaning its actually a 500GB HDD.

Sky+HD 1TB is actually a 1.5TB with 1TB for personal recordings and 500GB for On Demand , the box will also record more hours of HD than TIVO (240hrs) owing to the fact Sky use MP4.

So basically your correct that part of your drive is used for On Demand however you don't lose the advertised personal space

Obsolete now , the standard Sky+HD box is a 500GB HDD with 250 for personal (60hrs HD) and 250GB for On Demand , the boxes it arrives in only advertise the customers space which is 250GB.
