windows 8 works fine with mouse and keyboard thats what i use and it lot better than windows xp and 7

I tried it for about 30 mins didn't seem too bad. only thing I didn't like was the layout of trying to find stuff seems a lot more complex like MS are trying to keep people away from anything to do with an operating system.

This generation of kids they have to make things stupid proof

its so easy to use I dunno what peoples problems are TBH

Press windows key and you have a normal windows desktop

Quicklaunch enables the same as in 7 just add a new toolbar and send it to

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

so all its missing is the start orb and program list. So it takes a couple of extra clicks. Win key to new ui right click nothing select all apps gives you access to everything a program list would have done. Control panel looks like it always has if you select view by small icons

To shut down its just arrow to top right corner setting power and shut down or whatever

Ok these few things take a few extra clicks but its hardly a big deal . The OS for the main will work the same as 7

Oh and start8 works with RTM so you can even have your orb if you want so the only difference is the program file list which is easy enough to deal with

In fact how I use my computer with shortcuts in folders on desktop I personally could use win 8 without ever looking at the new ui

start8 right click menu and shut down options triggered by start8

goto desktop right click empty space and select new shortcut name it shutdown in the location box type shutdown /p
same again only name restart and location is shutdown /r /t 0

right click each shortcut and select pin to start

Well i have had the 90 day test version installed for 5 days now and intend to run it for the 90 days, i made a backup of my machine for when i go back to windows 7 should i not like this. I am hoping by the 90 days someone will have sorted the forced ui .

First impressions are it is no different to windows 7 other than there is no aero desktop and that ruddy metro interface, it is nowhere near as bad as it was but it does still get in the way

Below is a screen shot of my nice clean desktop

you can set colour intensity of the windows they are transparent well the taskbar anyway ( do not miss aero I have full window blinds if I wanna change it once supported)

I have to say I am not far off ready to support windows 8 once it hits the shelves

We too installed the eval on one of our desktops (was Vista) & are enjoying the experience. It seems much more refined than the beta I installed on my laptop a few months ago.
We like it so much that if we can get 3 upgrades for the $39.99 each that has been mentioned then the 3 desktops in the house will move to 8 & the laptop will remain 7.

Have to say this is starting to grow on me now that i am getting used to the differant interface

I think Microsoft have done the right thing by doing this 80 day option to allow you to test it.

Agreed, I think they had no option but to do that due to the huge change in the way we have to use it, also I think having the option to upgrade older versions of windows to 8 pro for £25 is excellent value.

Have they not always done that? I had trials of Windows 7 and XP which lasted 180 days before they came out

Don't know, have never had to do it this way before as i was always going to upgrade. This version because of the mobile phone interface was and still is undecided.

I will make the final decision just before the end of the 80 day trial.

all windows have a leeway from installation to activation and they have always bee rearmable but this one isnt ( apparently)

although funnily enough I have found instructions that I am yet to try

can confirm rearm works (this is not piracy or in breach of EULA as it is part of the operating system. The rearm can be run 3 times giving you 270 days
