There was nothing wrong with him. He withdrew from the 800m in order to focus on the 1500m, but the algerians failed to put the paperwork through. He was then forced to run the 800m. So he started that race, but didn't finish it. He was then thrown out of the olympics for not putting in a bona fide performance, but reinstated upon production of a doctor's note. In other words, the iaaf are muppets, and they know it. He should never have been thrown out imo, so the result is a good one.

So it's really entirely the Algerian Olympic Committee's fault then. No-one else's. We all know what happens if you don't put in a good performance whatever the reason.

Usually, nothing. Actually, the algerians put the paperwork in, but they were late.

I think it was semis in the 800m tonight. He also may have entered both with a view to picking the one he fancied most on the day. Which is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

What kind of humourless twonk makes an official complaint about having a sticker put on a van?

Seven athletes from Cameroon have disappeared from the Olympic village, according to officials.
All seven had visas allowing them to stay in the UK until November, though there are no reports any have claimed political asylum. The seven include five boxers, a swimmer and a footballer.
Team Cameroon's David Ojong told Cameroon media that of 60 athletes and officials at the village, 28 have gone home, 24 are still there and seven have just disappeared.

Humour becomes ineffective the moment you enter North Wales.

Not quite a 2003 Rugby World Cup David Campese moment:

Not sure about this bit:

"That said we have come pretty close. We have got a swag full of silver medals and we are very proud of our athletes for that."

Pretty close? and as for the silver medals - we've got more of those too when I last checked...

Re: The London 2012 Olympics: Current affairs discussion
Quite - there was a radio talk in last night about how 'jingoistic' we're being FGS! We spend decades trailing in the wake of and admiring countries which have invested in their proud, patriotic sportsmen/women and get results, then when we finally manage to emulate them and beat them at their own game we're supposed to feel guilty about it all and celebrating the fact. It's quite bizarre really...

A postbox that was painted gold in Jessica Ennis's home city of Sheffield, to celebrate her Olympic triumph, has been vandalised.
The graffiti, which read "Go Jess", was scrawled on the postbox in Barkers Pool in the city centre.
