Re: Surround sound issue

I have the cables as post 12, but still no joy.

---------- Post added at 08:42 ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 ----------

I have also tried the Toslink in both places as suggested in 7 and 12

---------- Post added at 08:52 ---------- Previous post was at 08:42 ----------

Oh dear I can see the initial confusion now, as my first post is wrong!!

The V+ is connected to the TV and not the BluRay as stated

Sincere apologies, but it is still not working

Re: Surround sound issue

Most HD programmes don't have Dolby audio, and there is none at all on the SD channels. As I suggested before, "Preview" on BBC HD is a reliable programme to check whether it is working.

Re: Surround sound issue

Post 12 is the way to connect defo, if you try conecting the V+ to the bluray via HDMI then it is obvious you aint going to get surround because the V+ only outputs stereo pcm over HDMI... unless the Sony Blu-Ray has a way of marrying your optical audio input to the HDMI Visual input (which i am quite sure it won't).
Just to reiterate, V+ to TV via hdmi. V+ set to HDMI audio overide. If you now switch to 108 (BBC HD) you shouldn't hear any sound from your TV. Connect optical cable from V+ to Blu-ray player, switch on blu-ray and select optical input as source. Check that Blu-ray input is set to output multi channel and not stereo downmix. Also make sure there are no DSP presets enabled, these can sometimes destroy the mix. P.S. Just because BBC HD broadcasts in Dolby Multi Channel audio doesnt mean every program on has a surround field.

That is incorrect. V+ will output Dolby over HDMI when the "HDMI Override" setting is on.

Re: Surround sound issue

Thanks for those. I will check the settings as Post 20, but perhaps I have again been unclear with my explanations, but in fact I don`t get any sound if I change the sound to Audio System, only if I have it set to TV speakers

I never realised this i always just presumed this because i don't have it wired that way, trying to explain to the mrs she would need the amp switched on to hear the telly would be to much of a problem.

Have y ou switched the blue-ray input correctly, if you have the optical plugged into the TV input on your blu-ray, press the function button on your blu-ray remote till TV shows on the front of the player, it won't switch to the correct input automatically.
