Re: What are Facebook thinking?
It's about the Twitter integration, apparently.

According to the Beeb it's about gaining a foot hold in the smart phone/tablet market.

Facebook's problem, though, is the fact that its days of rapid expansion are over, and that many see Facebook as something that's done on an old-style desktop computer.
This is where Instagram comes in. The app's strength - mobile devices - is Facebook's biggest weakness. The social network simply has not got the same traction on smartphones as it has on desktop computers. This is an Achilles heel. The number of phones with web access is already outnumbering computers, and sales of tablet computers could soon outpace those of traditional PCs.

Re: What are Facebook thinking?
I think I summed up my opinion quite well on Facebook, so..
Unfortunately, where it comes to this whole social network thing, it seems as though venture capitalists and analysts lose all sense of proportion. Design a website, and throw the term web 2.0 in either the paperwork, or any presentations you give, and it seems as though they throw tens of millions of pounds at you, ignoring past history that suggests that very few of these sites actually make a profit, and then those who do are subject to fashions (see Bebo, Myspace for examples of that).
Much as I love Facebook (this post would be rather ironic if I didn't), Facebook is (IMO) massively overvalued. Instagram is, I suspect, also massively overvalued.. After all, Facebook has essentially paid $1 billion for a large photoalbum.

Re: What are Facebook thinking?
How about Facebook actually stops losing my status updates or stops screwing up the privacy options every time they change some aspect of the site.Or screws up the Facebook links with other sites. Get the FB site to work right first.
