Millions spent on apprentice firms without scrutiny

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17564251

Quote:
Huge amounts of public money have been handed to private companies to train apprentices with little scrutiny over how it is being spent.
BBC Panorama found that nearly £250m worth of contracts went to large subcontractors in 2011 which have not been inspected by Ofsted.
This is because of a loophole in the government's £1.4bn training scheme.

Why am I not surprised? How the hell could they not arrange oversight?

Anyway you have 15 minutes.

Re: Millions spent on apprentice firms without scrutiny

This sort of thing has been going on for years sadly, it was just the same with so many of the so called training schemes dreamt up by the last govt. I dare say there are many other examples going on right now. It beggars belief.

Doesn't make it right that it is allowed to happen yet again though.Surely THIS government would rather not waste this money?

With all the government funded training schemes that have been used over the last 30yrs and the failure they have been ,you would think that they would learn by their mistakes .

I agree and thought I'd made that clear when I wrote "I dare say there are many other examples going on right now. It beggars belief."

That's clearly expecting too much. Having seen what had been going so badly wrong under the last lot, you'd have thought HMG would've tackled this sort of thing as a matter of priority.

sadly so true this makes people cynical enything which goes off with schemes. they just end up hash up they just rename it rebadge it sell the same sorry idea back.

We need proper structure in this country where kids learn properly progress from first day to work and skilled vibrant labour market. where teacher help to mould career paths on individual aptitude, skills and learning capacity.

We need education system runs smoothly this just scandalous it shows the lengths schools will go to improve league tables. I have worked on these tables wish they got banned.

It dont work it causes schools/colleges to stop educating work on improving there table standing any way they can.

They just for show, people dont realise they dont improve education standards. They all a show my establishment better yours but alot of it smoke daggers.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-17564311

Once we get the correct system where education moves in progressive scale is for those they educating. To channel Those go on to either universities or into appreticeships.

That universities eyes the labour market so we fill shortages in skilled sectors. Government encouragements to students to take up those areas which we require. Less need for to look outwards to fill shortages.

We then will see country gear itself to modern world.

We got educate business the value of apprenticeships the quality. long there safeguards that there investment protected. We will see vibrant system in place.

The whole mess needs shake up. No good throwing good many after bad stick head in the sand.

The one that's boiling my urine at this moment in time is the NVQ for Taxi Drivers. It's a course which is designed not to fail.

The cost of one of these courses is well in excess of £1,800 for a 4 hour course, for this you will get a folder and an examiner who will tell you how to put oil into your car.

Re: Millions spent on apprentice firms without scrutiny

Just caught up with this on iPlayer.

Depressing. How can anyone do an apprenticeship with no practical training?26 weeks for an apprenticeship? That's less than a year. And no job at the end of that.

And Morrisons.They should be ashamed.

I just think they bandy the word apprenticeship about too much ,no way can even half these schemes be classed as an apprenticeship .It is very misleading to put training schemes out as apprenticeships they are totally different things and serve different purposes

They are getting government funding meant for apprenticeships. But why should the government care. While youngsters are on these 'apprenticeships' they are off the unemployment statistics.

sadly thats what they was used for it was a way massage the unemployed figures never really meant proper solution to why businesses wont do proper funded appreticeships.

Maybe we might see action proper system in place at least education system being looked at.

what we need is them to sort the sorry mess out of apprenticeships. Which been mess since we drop proper apprenticeships years ago.
