Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will take the cost of his summer spending to £35million by adding Borussia Dortmund's £25m-rated teenage midfielder Mario Gotze to Cologne striker Lukas Podolski as his two major buys.
Gotze, just 19 but recognised already as one of the brightest hopes in Germany, is ready to join Wenger's rebuilding project - smashing Arsenal's record 2009 purchase of £15m Andrey Arshavin in the process.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
That would be a wonderful purchase by Wenger and would also send a very good message to the supporters that Arsenal are still big players for the future.

If Arsenal buy a few more, I'd argue they could afford to sell Van Persie, and reinvest in a player or two.

But why sell someone who is a absolute legend and also the scorer of a considerable amount of Arsenal goals.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Didn't they say that about Henry?
teams move on..and sometimes it makes sense, both for the player and the team

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Henry went when Dein left, thats what sealed the move or whats been said. he was being paid a huge amount by Arsenal before he set off to Barca. anyway that was, looking back good business with what was coming through.
The thing with the Gotze story is his dads ruled out the move sometime ago. Its all to do with whats at Arsenal, the issue we all know of.. useless players that need shifting in favour of quality. tell you the truth i cant see Gotze signing. Hes a major part of the Dortmund setup, they will required a big chunk of money plus he'll go to the euros, thatll just inflate the fee even more. This is a bit like the Hazard link although he wants to come but its the fee which stops me believing itll happen.
Arsenal will save/generate a decent amount clearing the average out in transfer fees but more in wages seeing as their all on huge contracts for their talent (to date).
Van Persie can be offered a nice contract as well as getting others in.
Id like Arsenal to sign Hoilett from Blackburn, he's out of contract free to sign anywhere this summer i think. theres kalou on a free. gourcuff who'll for sure leave lyon for a cut fee, hes mentally like podolskis, infact his game is too by that i mean mood swings needs to be settled which Wenger cures.
Jan Vertonghen, M'Vila both players that could cost a huge amount but theres a chance they could go through cheaper than expected.
My point being theres a lot that can be done. we'll see just how ruthless Arsenal are this summer.

One of the poorer United sides but odds on to win the title now methinks.
