Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
cool, didnt read the bit about the price reduction, that is even better.
Tbh though I am very happy with how things are atm for the first time ever I am not going to moan. I wanted to pay for 100mbit and that is what I get. I got my VMNG300 back and I am really enjoying and benefiting from my upgrade so atm it is too soon for me to be wanting anything else because I haven't even got use to 100mbit yet.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Any chance of seeing an upload speed significantly greater than 10Mbit anytime soon? I'd like at least double that (i.e. 20Mbit). Would rather have that than a jump from 100Mbit > 120Mbit but both is fine. 12Mbit won't suffice when Infinity and similar will soon offer nearly 20Mbit.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
There's certainly a lot of scope for higher upload speeds, the channel bonding that people are talking about here also applies to uploads - a single channel can easily handle the 12Mbit that the 120meg will require, so imagine what's possible when 4 or 8 channels are used.

Honestly? Virgin haven't yet completed the work to get everyone onto the current 10:1, so I can't see a further upstream programme being started before that, the 100Mbit rollout and this increase all going through

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Think the link is only showing the upgrade checker for people who have it in their cache. I just tried to get a date for NG11 but only get the news page. Oh well, not long till tomorrow unless anyone cares to take a peek for me lol

Dont believe a word he says, May i suggest you read some of his other posts over the last few years on this forum. Walter Mitty was trained by him.

Prob the same link others have but the page is stored in his cache so doesn't redirect to the newer page.
Either that or as you say, just another Telford special

No it really couldn't handle it easily. The unbonded upstream is already dying under the load from torrent monkey 100Mb users eating over half an upstream.
Releasing 12Mb upstreams on the current system would mean a single torrent monkey on 120Mb could degrade the service for everyone on the port single handedly.

How many areas remain less than 10:1? Isn't it just a few (I base this assumption on a relative having gone 10:1 with 50Mbit in Newton Abbott UBR and they always seem to be near the end of the queue for anything new)? Isn't 100Mbit likely to be available everywhere by the summer?
VM aren't appearing to be rolling out 120Mbit before the summer anyway so perhaps, between now and then, they could consider offering a better than 10:1 ratio on this top tier product when it is released? It seems obvious to me that 120Mbit is being offered simply so Virgin claim to be the fastest ISP in the UK ("And for those on Broadband 100, we’ll be boosting you up to a mighty 120Mb – a new benchmark as the UK’s fastest widely available broadband." quoted from here). What they won't be is the fastest ISP on upload speeds. They'll need to consider offering at least 20Mbit upload, if not 25Mbit, in tandem with the 120Mbit product and I'd like to see this seriously considered. Given that 120Mbit isn't coming for a while it should be quite realistic for VM to consider a better than 10:1 ratio on this new top tier tariff for when it is available.
