50mb BB Slower then 30mb!?
So, had 50mb bb switched on on thursday as an upgrade from 30mb and its slower then the 30mb service.
i have used speedtest, net at different times over 24hours. (9am, 1pm, 6pm, 9pm, 1am, 5am) and not once has the BB came back at over 24mb just under half of what it should be getting, even on the 30mb it would average between 29mb and 30mb.
was it a mistake upgrading!?
here is my connection info

You need a technician with your downstreams being all around 12dBmV so call 0800 052 0431 which is the 50Mb support line.

Re: 50mb BB Slower then 30mb!?
Not that it's likely to help the speeds though.
Sounds like you may have moved to a different CMTS and, like many these days, it's showing the strain of supporting 100Mbps unlimited clients.
Try setting up a TBB quality monitor - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors.html - you'll need to enable "Respond to ping from WAN" somewhere in the advanced setup pages.
Maybe a reboot would help if it's upstream congestion and doing it switches you to a different channel.

Once it's run a while it should be clear what your connection is like. TBH it's not looking all that good at the start considering the time of day.

He should not move if already on 30Mb as he will already be on a Docsis 3 CMTS.

Re: 50mb BB Slower then 30mb!?
Yes I was just guessing on a CMTS move based on the fact his 30Mbps was apparently OK. Presumably that would require some physical cabling change further back in the network then? As is pretty obvious I don't know just what it is that determines which CMTS you run on.
Maybe just a different upstream channel then and upstream contention?
Certainly the TBB quality monitor looks like it may generate into a dismal one.

Amazed a the power levels and would be surprising to get 30Mb with them so high.

Re: 50mb BB Slower then 30mb!?
There are large numbers of people posting high power levels recently for some reason or other. I've never had high downstream but I have had 58 up in the past for several weeks until an engineer actually bothered to turn up as booked and that made precisely zero difference to speeds or errors.
I've seen folks post higher on the community board and the techs replying there never offered to book an engineer with some of them.
I guess we'll know soon enough if the power adjustment cures the speed problems.

Usually if you call in and the levels are that high we can tell the is an issue and book a tech, some may run that high but sooner or later they fall over.

Re: 50mb BB Slower then 30mb!?
My best ever speed with VM was actually on 20mb
when "seeding" things i could generally seed on 240kbs for days.
now since the 30mb and 50mb I'm lucky to able to seed anything at over 50kbs for more then 1 hour.
Anyway, at least while i was on 30mb speedtest would show an average 29 or even 31mb at peak times.

Are you testing via wireless or wired
just curios

Wireless Pab, I'm aware there will be a difference from Wired to Wireless, but i had ran wireless for years with no issues until the 30mb / 50mb was installed

I figured you were
I can remember when I upgraded from 20 Meg to 50, the best wireless speedtest I could get was approx 29 Meg ish, which at the time I was more than happy with because it left plenty of bandwidth available for everything else.
A kind of automatic Qos if you like
Have you tried speedtesting with a wired connection

Wired:
Wireless (Virgin SuperHub)
Wireless (Buffalo Router)
Jezz, i didn't think there would be THAT much of a difference should i mess with the settings on the router?
