Have you read read how much he would pay for more channels.

He also said he would pay £10-£20 extra for Sky Sports F1 HD even those he already has Sky Sports and Sky Premium HD.

I would not pay 1p more for Sky Sports F1 HD.

He must be made of money.

It is likely going by what we have read it will be included in the Sports package.

The BBC taking over the finance of all the things you have listed was due to the new deal their signs with the Tories and will last until late 2016 so the BBC cant put up the licence fee until after October 2016.

The TV licence fee is actually frozen at £145.50 until 2017.

I have been calling on this for years but I think BBC Three and BBC Four need to merge and rebrand as BBC Extra.

That way the BBC can get some money in by selling off two Sky EPG Channels numbers.

That does not make sense.

BBC Three could merge with BBC Four to become BBC Extra/choice

CBBC could merge with Cbeebies to become one channel.

The BBC is wasting £22 million on some crap called The Voice.

I personally think the licence fee offers excellent value for money for what we get. Some of the best programmes are on the BBC.

BBC Three / CBeebies and BBC Four / CBBC are technically on 2 channels anyway. They time-share on Virgin Media and FreeView (no sure about Sky/Satellite) The technology allows them the have their own channel number.

BBC Three and BBC Four are broadcasting at different times to Cbeebies and CBBC

They are also planning to remove Cbeebie and CBBC Content from BBC One and Two after the digital swichover

And Yes I would agree that The Voice UK is a big waste of money, The BBC does not need to compete with the X-factor as it has aready got a show that beats it!

Yeah, I figured I'd get 'feedback' (backlash) on that! Still, here comes my defence!

Okay but HD-ready TVs with built-in Freeview were bought with the expectation by many that they would be capable of receiving HD without an external STB and they were probably sold on that basis too.

Exactly, I meant that there was no hardware upgrade path. The S-less version may be able to continue to take software updates (up to a point) but it can't support hardware that it doesn't have but which a later revision of the same model does have. I'd be upset if I bought an iPad having been told that it was not intended to be an iPhone and would never be capable of connecting to a cellular mobile phone network only to find that within a few months a later model would do just that.

My understanding was that iOS could only be updated within it's ancestral line (i.e. an iPhone 3 will not run iPhone 4 software) but I may have to revise that view. The nomenclature of the software and hardware is very ambiguous and confusing.

Maybe the S suffix should be a $ sign.

I was a big Apple fan back in the 80s but I think the late Mr. Jobs is overrated as a great visionary. I think Apple stopped being Apple when it got too big and Woz left.

If you add it all up, the number of fixes to the iOS software and the problems with hardware indicate a poorly designed and (in-house) tested suite of products which have ended up being field-tested by paying customers and enhanced based on their complaints of the products' shortcomings. Isn't that the Microsoft strategy?

To justify that all of that was on topic ...

My concern is that TiVo has been rolled out in a similar way to the iThing family of products although, so far, I'm not aware of newer hardware being released leaving those who forked out £250 up front high and dry with an inferior device. That said, I wouldn't want to have been an early adopter who paid a lot for a TiVo. Did they get refunds or freebies?
